Once upon a time time this messageboard was the place to be, we used to talk about lower league football, music, Knightons latest exploits, cheese, more lower league football etc

Now look at it, its a disgrace, all the decent characters, Ricko springs to mind, have naffed off. We now have to put up with what appears to be relentless imposters and other such degenerates abusing the regular contributors with their foul mouths.

I for one am completly pig sick of it, what are the moderators doing ?, can we not ban these (i'm guessing there is more than one) messageboard hooligans ?, can't we track them down via there IP number ?. These idiots spoil it for everyone, the regulars slowly but surely stop posting, the casual poster is put off, and i never know who is who and am dare not reply to a posting for fear that it may not be genuine. Imposter i am pleading to you, just please go somewhere else and leave us in peace, you are ruining it for every genuine lower league football fan.....please leave us in peace.

Moderators, why dont you do what you were voted (again i'm guessing) in for and either (a) Moderate - by this i mean you should be able to distinguish the real postings from the imposter and removed the fake ones. (b) BAN these idiots, speak to there ISP's, thats what the IP number is for isn't it ?, for gods sake Moderators, use your powers.

Hi it's Nick Harrison here. No it isn't me who keeps posting messages about drugs. I must have posted 2 or 3 and then there's some really bored wankers with nothing better to do than blow things out of proportion in an ignorant way. Here are my thoughts:

Argentina: were very good.

Italy: Boring as ever but they're certain to be in the final. Although they're terrible to watch, I'd rather they won than the Argies. You can't help but feel sorry for them after all the bad luck they've had at past tournements.

France: Over-reliant on Zidane and too may twats like Petit in the team who are shit. They'll still qualify from their group and are rightly amongst the favourites. Can't see 'em winning the thing, maybe if they'd had Pires.

Brazil and Spain: Both were quality to watch. Neither will win it but they could provide the tournements best moments, goals and matches. (Though for all the BBC's arselicking the best bit of skill in Brazil v Turkey was when Unsal flicked it over Roberto Carlos's head at the end and didn't even get a replay. If it had been the other way round we'd be watching it for months.)

Japan: Inamoto looks hilarious, like a giant baby.

Germany: Also hilarious. Did you see them celebrate that 8th goal like they'd won the World Cup. And filming the bloody scoreboard at the end.I bet in the dressing room they were all like "Now ve haf truly shown the Englander schwein who is greatest. mwuhahahaha"

Saudi Arabia: The coach with his clipboard will be the ture hero of the World Cup. He still reckons they're gonna make the 2nd round

Cameroon, Sweden, Turkey, Ireland, Denmark and South Korea: All have far worse teams on paper than England but managed to play far better as a team.

England: Just as they were when we beat Germany 5-1 our only tactics are Beckham set pieces and lumping the ball up for Michael Owen. We might still make the 2nd round though and maybe even the quarters depending on who we get there. I reckon we should have droppped Beckham and Owen for the friendlies before the World Cup so the players would have had to think a bit more and replaced Heskey and Campbell with a couple of guys who can actually play. The World Cup is ace and being a student even better. I've watched just about every game so far and I'm gonna continue to do so. Super Eagles Chief Coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, has given a strong assurance to Vice President Abubakar Atiku that the team would still qualify for the second round of the on-going World Cup despite the 0-1 loss to Argentina yesterday.

Onigbinde gave the assurance in a telephone chat with the Vice President shortly after yesterday's match. Investigations revealed that the Vice President, whose office supervises the Super Eagles World Cup campaign, had specifically expressed concern about Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the second round following the loss.

Atiku's frayed nerves were, however, calmed as Onigbinde declared the Eagles' determination to make the last 16, stressing that the loss to Argentina would help to bring out the best in the team in their remaining matches against Sweden and England.

The former Shooting Stars coach maintained that the Eagles lost to a better team and does not think that Sweden and the England could offer the same level of opposition as the Argentines.

During a chat with newsmen, Onigbinde listed the absence of Kanu Nwankwo in the midfield as one of the reasons why the Super Eagles could not lift their game higher and promised that the Arsenal attacker will be fit for the match against Sweden on Friday 7 June.

With the loss to Argentina, Nigeria is left with no other option than to pick up at least four points from its two remaining matches to have any chance of making the last 16.

Meanwhile, Onigbinde is assured of a full compliment of his squad for the match against Sweden with the return of Ifeanyi Udeze who missed the match against Argentina due to a card offence during the qualifying rounds.

For the first hour, the football luminaries waiting eagerly to witness the 2002 World Cup draw endured an hour of music, dance, pleasantries and speechmaking.

When the excitement of learning who plays who finally began, the biggest gasps and broadest smiles inside the cavernous Busan Exhibition and Conference Centre in Korea were reserved for the plum tie in Group F: England v Argentina - the game nobody wanted.

The latest encounter between the countries, on 7 June 2002 in the Japanese city of Sapporo, will write a new chapter in one of the bitterest rivalries in world sport, a feud which encompasses cheating, thuggery and even armed conflict.

Although Sven-G�ran Eriksson's face bore his customary smile, the usually non-committal England manager admitted his team's pairing with Argentina, his compatriots from Sweden, and Nigeria - all strong teams - was a potential disaster.

'It's a tough group. I don't think it could have been more difficult. I hope we have more luck in Japan than we had tonight. It is the most difficult group,' said the usually unflappable Eriksson. 'It is the best team in South America, maybe the best in Africa and Sweden, whom we have not beaten for 33 years.'

No wonder the headline on the Press Association's report of England's forthcoming opponents was: England get Group of Death. One ex-England player, Kenny Sansom, a winner of 86 caps in his time, joked: 'We could finish bottom!'

The last time England met Argentina, at the 1998 World Cup in France, Michael Owen became an instant national hero for scoring the wonder goal which alerted the world to his huge talent while David Beckham became public enemy number one after being sent off.

Unforgiving football fans hurled vicious abuse, coins and spit at him every time he played, chanted obscenities about his wife and baby, and even hung an effigy of him outside a London pub. It did not matter that his kick at Diego Simeone barely grazed the Argentine hardman's leg.

After his red card, 10-man England clung on for a 2-2 draw after extra-time but eventually lost on penalties and missed the chance to progress to the quarter-finals. Beckham shouldered the blame.

Incredibly, three years after the most painful episode of his eventful career, he has become such a composed figure that he is now captain of the national side. England's chances of surviving the Group of Death now rest heavily on his and Owen's shoulders.

The bad blood goes back years. During the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Argentina's Diego Maradona scored possibly the most unfair goal of all time - the infamous 'Hand of God' - when he stretched out his left arm and punched the ball into the net to put his side 1-0 up against England in the two sides' first meeting since the 1982 Falklands War. Soon after, the maverick genius dribbled through almost the entire contingent of white shirts to score one of the best goals ever seen.

England's clash with Sweden in Saitama on 2 June will provoke a stiff test of loyalties for Eriksson, who recently confessed that 'I'm still Swedish but I'm feeling more and more English'.

Failure to beat a side who they have not defeated since 1968 could see Eriksson's players on an early plane home. Nigeria, who England face on 12 June in Osaka in their final qualifier, will be no pushovers either.

Before the draw, Eriksson had identified Argentina and reigning champions France as the two teams he wanted to avoid facing early in the tournament. In a further example of the random nature of the way teams were allocated in yesterday's draw, now if England finish second in Group F - which in itself would be a significant achievement - they would probably then have to play France.

After the highly fortuitous way in which England clinched their appearance at next year's finals - an injury time David Beckham free- kick in October to grab a point against Greece and condemn old rivals Germany to the playoffs - their luck deserted them yesterday.

Instead the Republic of Ireland seemed to enjoy the available good fortune when they were placed in Group E alongside Germany, Saudi Arabia and Cameroon.

Eriksson, usually cool and collected, would probably have danced a jig of joy to have ended up such company, or in Group D, another weak group, where Korea, Poland, the USA and Portugal - only the latter a truly world-class team - will fight over two places.

England goalkeeper David Seaman, currently out of action with an injured shoulder, seemed to be speaking for no one but himself when he said he could not wait to meet Argentina.

'It's not bad is it? I can't wait to get my shoulder better and then to get out there for the World Cup. As for Argentina, it's a great chance for revenge after what happened at the last World Cup. I'm sure David Beckham will be very happy with it.'

The only consolation for England and their fans is that they will play all three group stage matches in Japan and will not have to travel to Korea. However, the Football Association had hoped that England would be based in Korea, where they had already scored an early off-pitch victory by securing first refusal on its best hotel.

While strict security will surround the England team because of the conflict in Afghanistan, special measures are being planned to protect Beckham who is a huge star throughout the Far East and was mobbed when Manchester United toured Asia in July. The adulation surrounding him is expected to reach fever pitch next summer.

        Well you're entitled to your opinion but to suggest playing Vassel in midfield just seems bizarre to me. Thing is we can only go with the players available - if Ericson is going to persist with his long ball game then surely he has to change the front two. I think Vassel may miss out in the next game (not his fault - he did well today considering) in favour of Heskey and Owen. Argentina will not get caught out by a long ball up to two small forwards - they play too deep defensively.
