Subject: Everybody love a good deal

One of the main reasons I like my Voyager XII is because it is an affordable, economical, efficient alternative to more popular touring bikes like Harley's Ultra or Honda's Goldwing. I can enjoy virtually the same level of comfort for a fraction of their price. The low cost of ownership and maintenance is a real plus in these economic times. So, when it was time to replace the tires on my bike I started paying close attention to all the blogs about the virtues/vices of the Dunlops, Metzelers and Avons, and the cost of these tires.

When it came time to purchase tires, I guess I am still looking for them to be economical, affordable and efficient just like my Voyager. I priced out the different tires, and had decided that for a little less than these tires listed, I could purchase the Continental Touring tires. I have ran them in the past on a different bike with great results. Just about the time I was ready to order from Dennis Kirk, I read a thread on the site recently about "tire shimmy". In that thread, a post by Marlowe from WI stated that he runs Duro Tour tires. He said he has 7000 miles on them and they handle like a dream. I didn't even know that Duro made a suitable touring tire, so Marlowe posted some information. He purchased them from Jake Wilson at www.jakewilson.com - For those that missed it, here is the info:

Jake Wilson Part #1263710001 Front : Duro HF296A BLVD 130/90-16 (67H) Tread 4 plies, Sidewall 4 plies, Max Load 675lbs

Jake Wilson Part #1263720002 Rear : Duro HF296C BLVD 150/90-15 (79H) Tread 5 plies, Sidewall 4 plies, Max Load 960lbs, Load Range C

These tires certainly appeared to have the necessary ply and load ratings that our touring bikes need, but what really sold me was the price. Marlowe said he got both tires delivered for under $110....

Sounded to good to be true, so I went to Jake Wilson to check them out. Not only was Marlowe correct, I ordered them for even less. Turns out they give a $10 discount for ordering 2 tires, and they have an internet coupon code that takes another $10 off, so I got these 2 tires shipped to my door for $99.98. That's right, I am holding in my hands 2 touring tires delivered for less than $100!!!

How about it; anyone else ran these tires other than Marlowe? I figured for $100 they are definitely worth a shot. Especially since I keep hearing about Metzeler problems; proof that just because you spent a lot of cash on a tire doesn't mean they can't have problems. I can't wait to lever these on the bike and let everybody know if they are any better than what I got now (Dunlop 404's). If you are interested go to Jake Wilson's website and check them out!
