The "Groundset" Y cable is an optional extra.. It should be connected (if fitted) to the cable from the radio that has a yellow band around it. (The Brown one is the CB and the Blue is the feed to the power amp under the right fairing)
The fact that the mics dint work point to the fact that the Y cable is broken.
If you have the headlamp out, the wire from the radio is short, (about 8") before it joins the Y cable. Just trace them down.. Its easier to see with the plastics off ..
