Subject: Questons about XII front end maintenance

Hello, I have a 98 Voyager XII. The bike runs fine and one problem is with the front end....something is loose, needs adjusting or replacement......the front tire has been raised off the ground and the wheel seems good an solid so I am guessing the wheelbearings are ok, but maybe not......

There is no wobble at high speeds, but at 30 MPH once when just coasting all of a sudden the front end shook violently and I had everything I could do to keep from losing control....It only happened once. That is one symptom...I am thinking that the steering stem might need tightening...Teh bike has 47K miles on it and I don't think the PO did any such adjustment...I seek opinions on whether to just have the stem tightened or also have the top and bottom bearing greased?

I will be having the dealer do this work...I believe it is not necessary to remove the fairing to do this work, even if it would come to greasing or even replacing the top and bottom bearings....Is that a fact?

The forks were converted to have progressive shocks and one side leaks slightly....Color me dumb if you want, but do you know if it is conceivable that the fork seals would be other than OEM type or duplicate aftermarket seeing as the bike has progressive springs?

Any guesstimates of maximum hours required to do this all, worst case:
Replace fork seals, refill fork oil.
Replace both top and bottom steering stem bearings.
Replace front wheel bearings...

Thank you for any advice and suggestions...
