Subject: okay let's bury our heads in the sand and not acknowledge that NYU and Columbia are higher echelon schools. that will certainly help elevate our standing.
In reply to: d. atkins '02 's message, "This year's graduation speaker will be John Sexton, President of NYU. I don't know if anyone else will agree with me, but I think Mr. Sexton is a poor choice. I know his accomplishments are impressive and he is a formidable figure in higher education (as well as an alum), but he is the steward of a rival institution's clout and prominence. So why are we inviting in to speak? Could we not get anyone else? It just seems to me that in inviting Mr. Sexton, we are tacitly recognizing NYU's superiority over us. When was the last time a Fodham President was invited to bestow some wisdom over the study body of NYU or Columbia? If we want to be a leader (or the leader) in NY education, then we should not be kissing NYU's behind." on Wed April 27, 2005 13:01:29
