Subject: my puppy,Bubba, has cherry eye
In reply to: Irene Diamond 's message, "Ugggg......CHERRY EYE!!!" on Tuesday, December 23, 07:30:48am

My shih tzu mix pup was diagnosed with cherry eye about 3 months ago. The vet popped it back in. He had no problems until about 2 weeks ago.The cherry eye came back. I just kept putting the drops in the eye like the vet suggested. I called the vet's office last Friday and his office suggested that I wait until May 4th to have both eyes operated and the glands removed. I did some research on the net and it is very strongly recommended that this procedure should be avoided.
They worked me in to see the pup, he again reinserted the gland back in. He was not pleased when I asked him about just having a tacking procedure done and I told him I had read that the risk of removing the gland was too high because of possible dry eye. He laughed at me and said he had never heard of this and did not know anything about the tacking method. He said you can't believe everything you read on the net!
Tonight I noticed the other eye was looking funny. I treated him with drops and massaged his eyes and tried the warm compresses. The other eye is still looking good.

What do you suggest would be the best thing to do, I do not have the money for an operation right now. I do know a group of very good eye specialists here in Houston. I do not want to have the gland removed.
Thanks,
Elsa and Bubba
