Miss North-East America May 12-13 with Mr Tim is changing hotels due to a major error on the Crowne Plaza's part. The hotel is only about 7 miles from the original hotel and I am very excited after visiting the hotel with Maren and realizing how nice it will be to be downtown and all the food, and entertainment there.
The new hotel will be the Ramada Plaza in downtown Hartford (previously the Crowne Plaza). It is right off the highway, on the train route for those that want to take the train in from NYC. The hotel is very nice, it was recently renovated. The ballroom is away from the front desk and others coming into the hotel (non pageant people). The exciting part is it is on the FREE STAR SHUTTLE service. This is a shuttle that will get you all around the city for FREE and has pick up at the hotel every 12 minutes. There are so many great restaurants in the city, the new science center, the carousel in Bushnell park, sooo many things to see or places to eat while you or your child are not competing. Below I have provided links to help you plan.
There will be two group rates. The $99 (same as Crowne Plaza) or $109 which includes Breakfast Buffet for 2 adults (they have a kids price for the breakfast). The breakfast is a full buffet with made to order omelets. Breakfast Buffett - Sat. & Sun. from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The hotel restaurant Bistro Z has a great menu and a kids menu too so no worries. For those who are used to the city and the expensive parking, don't worry they have a parking garage and while parking is very expensive in the city, it will be complimentary for NES/Miss NE America contestants. You can then use the FREE STAR SHUTTLE to get around if you want to leave the hotel.

Here are some great links for downtown Hartford. The FREE Hartford STAR SHUTTLE is available from the hotel every 12 minutes and you can use it to get to your favorite restaurant, favorite store etc. There are lots of great things downtown, especially for the kids.
The Carousel in Bushnell Park

XL Center (can use shuttle or walk) and the weekend of Miss NE is the Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Circus. There is even a show on Sat at 3pm. For the younger ones 0-7 competing, they will be done on Sat with their competition around noon and can head out to the circus in the afternoon if you plan ahead

The new Connecticut Science Museum/Center is right on the FREE STAR Shuttle path as well - This is a GREAT place for the kids, they will LOVE IT. The little ones can go in the afternoon after competition.

Some places that are great possibilities are SALUTE'S right there on the same street, one of Maren's favorites and owned by a local family we know - http://salutect.com/, or try City Steam Brewery Cafe (a favorite of many). There is also Black Eyes Sally's BBQ (a local favorite)http://blackeyedsallys.com/ . Another local favorite is Agave Grill (very close)-http://www.agavehartford.com/ Can't decide what kind of food you want? Try Food Court at State House Square - 7 mini restaurants with one dining room. There is plenty of fast food as well with Wendy's, Burger King, Blimpy's, Quiznos and Moe's -
