I received a postcard inviting me to a Children and Teen Open casting call in Houston. I think my 7 year old son has potential. I am planning to go to Aquarian Associates casting call today. I am doing research now and I appreciate the caution that Jamie has given me. I also hope that Charlotte is real. I found the Better Business Bureau has given a reliability rating for Aquarian Associates but not for any other person that posts on their website. Aquarian Associates promises a FREE EVALUATION in their postcard and I presume that is the hook. If they ask for money, I hope I will be smart enough to keep my wallet closed. If I can find this BB again after I go to the casting call, I will post a follow-up message.

Hon, I met you and your son. This is the most rediculously staged presentation I've ever seen. If I'd had the forsight, I wouldn't have taken off work and wasted my time.
Whenever I asked a question, I was blown off. I informed
them that I was involved in a voice over scam ten years ago,
and that I had concerns. They looked very uncomfortable.
I had a sick feeling in my stomach when I left. I went
ahead and locked in for $240, because that much I could lose. The same day I found out it was a scam. Then I had
to change my credit card number. I also have to dispute
the $240 to get it taken off my Mastercard. This is an
embarrassing nightmare. If I'd done my homework sooner, I
wouldn't be going through this...

Thank you!

well what ever you think, yes you probally talked to me as I WENT TO A CALL BACK MEETING! i talked about my son tyler and they showed alot of his work, it is a matter of opinion you either believe that a mercedes benz commercial is real when you see it running all over the tv or pretend it is fake. the search is real they bring the scouts there if your child is marketable then things can happen they will not happen it ypou sit at home and dont try i tried it worked and is still working. i wish some people will just believe in their child and in the reality of possiblility things take time it doesnt happen over night.

My 2 y/o son was one of 1000's chosen to attend the national convention that is held each year in Myrtle beach. After our $400 fee to National discovery networks convention plus the costs of photographs and slides we have returned home thankful we DID NOT GET called back. This is a money making operation ONLY. The Ocean Dunes resort is where the convention is held and it is a rat hole. WE had a beautiful view of the ocean but the accomidations are hidious. The NDN employees are not professional looking. I was expecting at the least for them to have a shirt displaying they were actually with NDN. We registered in early friday morning and there were 4 early 20's looking NDN employees with whom we registered with. They never said "welcome" or "hello" or anything to that effect, They asked my sons name, told me it was an additional $50 to have my husband with us and I better have CASH cause that is all they acepted. I was handed my sons # for the compitition and told to be at rehearsal 2 hours later to walk down the runway. What a joke that was!!! The music was blaring out of the broken, scratchy speakers, it was Cher and rap music, my son covered his ears the whle time and was ready to leave. you walk on stage and then in 1 minute you are done. Thats it the rehersal for the actual show the next day when there are 20 talents agents looking at them. Why not have those chairs filled so when the real show happens the kids arn't scared because there are 20 more faces staring at them. It was not ORGANIZED at all from my standpoint, so I am so happy we did not follow up on our call back. We were out $400 plus hotel and gas, food but it could have been a whole lot more $.

Victim at the November 2004 "Search" in L.A.

Date Posted: 09:11:33 11/23/04 Tue

November 23, 2004

I am a mother who fell for this terrible scam and would like to share my experience with everyone and hopefully save alot of people money!!
I received a letter inviting my son to a casting call and took him out of couriousity and they "seemed" legit on this day. They ask your child a few questions on camera and see how their personalities are "If they are right for the business" You pay no money on THIS day. Then you leave feeling it could really be the real thing! Then I receive a letter a few months later asking me to come to a meeting that my son got a "favorable evaluatuion" Which seems exciting! And they only want serious parents who take this seriously because alot of the childs success depends on the parents! So I go back and hear "THE SPEAKER AND OWNER OF THIS COMPANY" giving his B.S. speech which sadly I fell for! He had my interest at first until I heard him say there would be an entry fee!! Ive heard of these before so I am not falling for this or so I thought! Here is how he hooked me!! He made it sound like The almost $400 entry fee would be a small fee to pay to get my child exposure to people I would never be able to otherwise
put my child in front of which are HOLLYWOOD movie directors in Film and Television!! And it would cost me alot more money doing it on my own getting pictures made and a comercial to be distributed to the "RIGHT PEOPLE" and I also wouldnt have the time to do since I do not live in "HOLLYWOOD" So I went home and thought about it!! I went back on the date they told us to PAY THE PRICE!! After I gave them nearly $400 then they gave me a new packet of information! In this AFTER I paid the $400 It stated I must then pay another $55 just to watch my child do this! Walk on a runway in front of "Directors" and take pictures and do the commercial!! I already spent on booking the flights and hotel!! This search for talent and this opportunity to make a video commercial and Photos of my child to be distributed by this"COMPANY" which was to benefit my child turned into a TALENT COMPETION with JUDGES!!!! And cost my family $2000+ Where is the quality commercial on video to give my child exposure? It was a piece of CRAP! Every child I saw doing there commercial was not prepared for what took place! They walked into a big empty room with about 8 JUDGES ("directors") staring at them and demanding that the parents are not aloud to prompt their child or they will be disqualified-"Disqualified??? From what??" I didnt know this was just a competition and there was NO quality commercial on video to be distributed! The children stood in front of a Big screen with all these "judges" staring at them and telling them to get in front of this microphone (Which was never explained to us!)and do their commercial! EVERY child in that room was a nervous wreck and distracted by the microphone and some even said I dont know what to do with this microphone! It was SAD!!!!! Pathetic and These rutheless people need to be stopped!! They are making thousands of dollars scamming parents every where by using our children to their advantage! They do NOT care about helping us help our children!!!! I hope anyone reading this who hasnt been ripped off yet will beleive this and save you and your child a great deal of loss!!
Also when the show was over I did confront this guy and when I told him how I felt and that it was deceiving and really more like a rip off He immediately panicked and no longer wanted to converse with me and disappeared into some room! He was obviously guilty and knew it!! Unfortunately it wasnt until I came home and wanted to find a way to expose this IMPOSTER that I came upon so many other victims or those who almost fell for it!! I pray that we can put a stop to this and for anyone who thinks we could come together and try to stop this I would love to hear from you!!!!!

My daughter and I were at the Great American Model & Talent Search in Los Angeles as well last weekend. I don't really feel that it's a scam. That has not been proven to me yet and my daughter's name was not even called that night. My daughter was in the 9-12 category. I discovered this website last Wednesday and found a lot of criticism about this company. I'm not suggesting that you feel this way, but in a lot of what I read appeared to be angry parents because their child didn't get called and those whose children did get called (previously) didn't make thousands of dollars like they were probably anticipating. They said there are no guarantees and this is what we walked in with keeping in mind. I believed Mr. Manfretti was very forthcoming with the information. So what, you're out a couple of grand. I'm out of money too but it was a trip worth taking and I would do it again if my daughter wants too.

I have been in the search since I was 13 years old, and I am now 20. I have gotten plenty of work from the search. It is not a scam at all. It says right on the paperwork that the tickets to get in will cost money. You don't have to go in if you don't want to pay. More importantly, did you go to your scheduled briefing? Because if you had, they very clearly explain that the child will do a commercial in front of scouts. You were even given a list of commercials to choose from, or could make up your own. All the industry professionals are legit and are not judging the children. They are scouting to find children they can represent. Just because your child was not the right type right now does not mean it is a scam. So please, get your facts straight before you make an accusation such as the one you made. Honestly.

I was totally shocked while reading your letter hoping that we were not talking about the same company. The entire scenerio was identical. Prior to the call back meeting where my child was found favorable for marketing, I did some research on the Aquarian Associates, Inc. company. I also know some people in the "business" in CA and I contacted them. My mind was put to ease knowing that they are a reputable company. At the meeting we watched a film. Several scouts who attend the Great American Talent and Model Search were named and I jotted them down. I came home and researched them on the internet and the companies that they represent. Again, they were all legit. I did sign up and I hope my daughter is fortunate enough to succeed, however, no promises were made. If not, it has been a learning experience, an experience most of her peers never had, and it added to her self confidence. I am sorry if your child was not chosen. Read the other letters. It appears that it really does work for some... And those of you who did succeed, feel free to email me and give us some pointers.

My son Drew went to the search, received three callbacks, and signed with an agent immediately. Upon returning home, he signed with two more agents - and he has now booked a featured spot in the film NAILED starring Jake Gyllenhaal and James Marsden. This NEVER could have happened without GAMTS because I didn't havt the resources, the know-how, or the contacts to do it on my own. And the money we paid to go is nothing compared to what it would have cost to travel to NYC or Hollywood and meet with agents. The other benefit to going to GAMTS is that the agents are specifically there to see the children - you cant get that benefit when you are the one pounding on THEIR door. You also get the benefit of having your children evaluated BEFORE you pay for expensive pictures.

This is a great company. And its been my experience that those who are angry are usually the parents of children who did not get an agent or immediate opportunity out of it. I can understand the hurt you feel, but its not a good reason to tear down a valid business.

I am sorry to hear of your experience. So many scams out there. It gives legit businesses trying to really help actors a bad name.
Here is one that is TERRIFIC.

Talent to Go is a new paradigm in the world of showcases for Los Angeles actors. TTG takes wonderful actors, (KIDS & TEENS as well as adults) in performance ready scenes into casting professionals offices.

The actors receive valuable written feedback and glean the expertise of the Casting Pro in a private one on one after they perform their professionally coached scene.

As a bonus, TTG brings the busy casting directors a delicious gourmet meal, from Wolfgang Puck ,served on a tray with fresh flowers and real silverware.

It is the brainchild of Judy Kain and Pat Tallman, both accomplished hot savvy ladies working in the entertainment industry since they were teenagers. Combined they have appeared in over 300 commercials, TV series, feature films, and plays from here to New York.

“We are fulfilling a critical unmet need for actors and casting directors .” said Judy Kain . It is reasonable and a efficient use of everyones time.

They created a means for the casting people to see the most actors in the least amount of time and have it be convenient as well as classy..
It is a win, win, WIN!!

I enjoyed Talent To Go! The talent was impressive, prepared and professional.
Lisa Soltau, Junie Lowry Johnson Casting
"Wow! This was really convenient and the talent was exceptional."
Todd Sherry, Patrick Rush Casting
"What a wonderful idea! The talent was great, and they were in and out so quickly ... you should try it!" Fern Champion CSA and Paul Ruddy, associate
"Everyone was so prepared and professional. It was a great chance to meet actors and be entertained." Helen Geier, Rick Millikan Casting

I went to an open call last year, got a call back per sa, went to the meeting. it seemed legit to me. I just didnt have the money at the time to sign my son up but if i did i would have. the actor the played young fat joe in the boost commerical was there. I'm cant imagine they paid him to come and say that's how he got casted for the commerical if that's not really how it happened. his mom was also there. I do plan to sign my son up this year, in fact i just went to another open call in MD. so now i'm just waiting for the convention. somebody mentioned in an earlier post that it tells you on the paper what is included in the price and what you would still have to pay out of pocket. anyway most of these post are kind of old so if anyone has more recent infomation share with the rest of us. what about the lawsuit? please and thank you

Anyone looking in this direction to help your child accell in the modeling industry ...BEWARE!! I just paid $595.00, (on a company credit card) to the company known as G.A.M.T.S. in Pittsburgh, PA just this past Saturday. Within 24 hours of this company having my bosses' credit information and signature, this credit card was being used online in a Texas "hold 'em" gambeling site!! I am not a gambeler, but took a gamble on this company! I am notifing the US Attorney office, the BBB, and the news later today! I knew, when I handed the information to the lady claiming to have once been a model, thier behavior seemed quite shady in the office. Look guys! Do your research before you invest anything into this company. Had I seen all of the investigations being done nationwide on this company prior to payment, i would have NEVER participated! The banks cancelled my transaction with this company. I hope you all can do the same. This group needs investigated and stopped! I will be working very hard to see what can be done. BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!!! BEWARE!!!

OK...here we all are L@@King for the TRUTH! I REFUSE to be a "Stage Mother" with all the pushy-ness, but I have had quite a few "AGENCIES" try to convince me to let my daughter join as one of their CLIENTS! (I figure if she WANTS to do some modeling, GREAT for her...if not, that is fine too because college just around the corner).
MY question....why should the parents have to PAY LARGE sums of money to get their child "out there". *Headshots are nice, but I AM a professional photographer, so why am I told THEIR PEOPLE have to do it!! LOL **HECK, I will do anyone elses photos for 1/2 the price they are asking, and STILL make a good living!
SO.....Although NO ONE can PROMISE success, I would like to know SOMEONE who is HONEST! Someone with REFERENCES that we can actually TALK TO, and who is listed with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU as a responsible & RESPECTED agency. (Maybe we are all just DREAMING...sometimes it isn't WHAT you know, but WHO you know).
As PARENTS...OUR number ONE priority is to KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE, so let's work together to fine-tune some of these "fly-by-night" businesses. Let me know how YOU feel.

I attended the first event with American Model Search where they take a picture of your child and send you home in hopes in reciving a letter. A week later a letter came . I was so happy! The letter had a date and time for a parent only meeting and the same location that the first event was held at. I did not know if I was going to go or not but I ended up going. The meeting was very informative and made a lot of sense. He spoke of sucess stories and we watched a video. The also had a woman named Charottle and her son Tyler for NC to come and speak. Even though there was proof in front of my eyes such as commerical clips and modeling adds from Tyler the presentaion seemed so fake for some reason. Like they were acting. It made me feel at bit uneasy. Maybe they had done it so many times before that it has become boring and common to them I dont know. Charollte said she was a single mom and it made me wonder how she could afford to pay 1000 dollars to cover fees and travel. I dont know many single moms who can toss out money like that. The thing I didnt like about this is they get you al excited about the convention and tell you that you have 24 hours to slam down a down payment of 300 dollars and then another 400. I mean come on thats a bit pricey. You still have to pay for travel and hotel. I am not sure if they are for real or not but considing they said there was over 10000 children at the convention last time thats 6 million. It doesnt take 6 million dollars to hold an event like this. The agents that come probly arent paid to come..I mean they are the ones looking for the models right? All I can say is Im not going to be rushed into someonething I am not fully educated on. I hope this information was helpful to you in some way and good luck to you or your child. THanks

I am sorry that you were a little misunderstanding with how things work. I just came from this search and there were no way by any means 10000 people there. I was there and my daughter was in the search. She was in the 9-12 division and there werr only 108 children from all over the East Coast. So your figures are off some. But one thing that bothers me is that you spea of the money that they make.... They are a business and the last time that I looked... Business are in business if they make a profit. They do not do it if they are loosing money. That is how America works. They do make money, but they I am sure have a ton of expenses that they pay out. That search was phenominal. Well set up, stage with lights, entertainment, scouts from all over the US, tons of workers and so on. So until you actually fully understand something... I think you are unfair to say things that could hurt someone. You wouldn't want that to happen to your employer or husband, children etc.

I was just wanting to express my feeling of this search. I just came home Sunday after my daughter did this search. We are from Alabama. They came to our town, did a free open call, received a call back letter for 2 of my children and decided to take just my 11 year old. Husband wanted to wait on the baby to get a little older. YES!!! I paid the money to go because they provided a service that was uncomparable to anything that I had seen. Even trying on my own JRP aka John Robert Powers wanted the likes of $5000.00 to join their school and that wasnt all, this I simply paid $685.00 for exposure, headshots, coaching and screen testing. My daughter was seen by very incredible agents. She was evaluated by Abrahams Artists from LA, Nickelodeon from NY, Innovative Artists from NY, Diamond Agency from FL, Marilyn's from NC, Babes N Beaus from GA and Chicago and many more. There were 20 plus people there and she had an excellent time. She did runway, photo shoot and commercial reads. As a results she got 4 callbacks from agents and was placed on tape for a Disney project. She will be signing with an agent in GA and SC. So you see people things can happen, but just because something doesn't happen for 1 doesn't mean that it will not for others. GAMTS was very professional, the search ran like a well oiled machine and I thank them. If not for their services, my daughter would still be waiting for a chance to be seen by someone. Someone that I didn't know who to take her to. Now she has 2 agents, an audition for disney already, her headshots and many other things will follow suit. Thank you GAMTS for making my daughter's dream become a reality and we will see you again next year for our son!!!

Does anyone have info on the model and talent scouts know under the name of Model Search America? We attended a model search where my 4 yr old was chosen to meet several agencies, producers etc.. under one roof in Kansas May 2003. They spoke of how it should not cost to promote your child and anyone asking you for money is a scam then they broke their rule and asked for over $500 to attend the upcoming meeting in May saying this helps cover the cost of the agencies that have agreed to fly in and see these kids. Does anyone have any info on these people or know of anyone who has actually gotten accepted and paid work. It just seems strange to me so I would appreciate any input or comments. Thanks

Hi..This message is for Brenda who has a 4 yr old girl who attended MSA..They are scams hunny.I have been there, dont that, and you do nOT get anything.they just pick out anybody who has a nice smile, nice teeth, great features,beautiful..but nothing ever happens.you should go to OneModelPlace.com,that is how I got discovered..and you don't even have to pay hundreds..that's so stupid!
I think there is a website now called www.OneBabyPlace.com.That is where you can put up a portfolio for you beautiful baby, and you'll get a lot of attention and exposure..also,u can call hotlines if you want her to be in Films, like Extras and etc..There's a website coming soon called www.TalentHotline.com so be sure to check that out..Just don't be fooled by those stupid conventions..They say you don't need to be tall and pretty..YOU DO!!

Go to www.ModelingScams.com and then and there you will find out alot of things you will need to know and what you'll find very helpful.I hope you don't get scammed Brenda..
_________________________________________________________
These are some I have been through that are 100% SCAMS:

*Model Search America (MSA)*..they are so fake!I was fooled!

*Trans Continental Talent (TCT)*..they had a former name, but they got caught and some parents took them into legal action, went to court and they parents won the case cuz they were being ripped off..

*Barbizon Modeling Agency*..why do u need to be taught to use a fork and spoon to eat your food?NO MODELS do that! They don't guarantee anyone ANYTHING!

*John Casablanca Modeling Agency*..hahaha!they made me laugh..they are so fake!they told me that Barbizon and all the other fakes/scams are not true..who could have known that they were trying to BRIBE ME into paying $2,500 dollars to have modeling classes for 6-8 weeks..They don't guarantee you NOTHING!!

*WY International Agency*..when I got there to the place,it took so long since I had an appointment, the lady looked like a WITCH,seriously, and she tried to bribe me too.I asked her,"where does the company name come from, what does the W Y mean?"..she just said,"oh..well that's just a name.."..I knew I was gonna get fooled..I knew those things already..whew!Thanks God IO have never paid.

Brenda,to be honest with you sweetie...You should NEVER payu anybody to take pictures of your daughter, nor sign a contract with any agency that says they will take 80% of what your daughter will make, and you trake home only 20%..imagine if your daughter had a gig that pays only $100 for the day..then you lost there since you can only take home $20 bucks, and the carppy agency took away $80 bucks..

They DO NOT have the right to take 80%..ask anybody,,the Supermodels in the nation have the same rule..they get 80%,they're agent gets 20%..you know why it's like that?bcuz the MODEL is the one that shows up to work her butt off,and pose there..not her AGENT!!..

By the way,I get $250 for TWO hours with photographers in Onemodelplace.com..but just be careful bcuz they are a couple fakers in that website who say that they r pros, have experience..some don't..don't work with Amateurs,,they only want you time..they don't PAY!Just read everything in the Bulletin in website..

so I hope this was a good enough, explanatory or everything u need ed to know..anything else..Email me at Quincy_Mae@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Miss Quincy Mae

Funny you should say barbizon modeling is a scam, my daughter not only learned ediquitte but she also had many auditions, and is presently doing a shoot for Publix Supermarkets in FL.
Barbizon does not promise work because it has no control over what agents and or casting directors are in need of and are going to hire that is their decisoion, Barbizon just opens doors and leads the way for many young ladies and my daughter is a Success story.

You are bragging about a grocery store ad? Barbizon is a scam too. You will get jobs at hair shows and extras all which you don't have to pay for just look in your local trade magazine. Non pay work.,

John Casablancas is not a scam or a fake. It is a reputable school that teaches the basics in Modeling and Acting. My daughter attended John Casablancas and loved it. She still attends just for the Workshops. After a person graduate, they have an option to call JC's Model and Talent Management's hotline to listen for jobs that they have available. My daughter was 6 yrs. old when she had her first job through them. She is now 8 and is signed by an Agent in Charlotte, NC.

Poeple listen up you don't need to learn any basics. You know how to walk and do expressions. You can be a model. No real model was ever taught how to be a model. Even on America's next top model that's why those girls you never see doing anything else that win. I guess the get taught so much they end up on reality shows for washed up has beens on VH-1

I noticed that you mention that your daughter has an agent in Charlotte, NC. How has it all worked out with the agent? I would like to contact a REAL agent for my daughter, and after everything I have read in the web, I find it difficult to trust anyone!!!

If anyone else can give me more info, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I live in Concord and when I was looking for an agent - I looked around and called a couple and finally went and met with The Brock Agency in Hickory! Beverly is great - we have only gone on one casting call so far but we are pleased with her services. www.thebrockagency.com

My son has two agents in this area that are legit and dont take money unless you work. Here are the websites:
www.marylin-s.com GREAT agency, located in Greensboro

www.z1modelsandtalent - also excellent. Ask for Donna Ehrlich. Located in Fort Mill SC

Neither of these agencies ask for money but you DO have to have headshots or comp cards done to be signed. They dont require that you use their photographers, although Donna's husband is a phenomenal photgrapher and you wouldn't regret it.

Contact meat sblachly at gmail dot com if you have any other questions.

Anyone with a bikini can be a car model. You don't need an agent to do that either. MSA is a scam I know my friend worked for them and the models you see their are mostly washed up.

MSA pretends like certain people make the cut but EVERYONE gets a letter about 2 weeks or less later inviting you to a different location to "be seen" every single person gets a letter.

Has anyone had any dealings with Cosmo Models and Talent in Louisville Kentucky? They just offered to represent my child for one year. They did not try to sell me any classes, as my child has already done some acting and modeling. They did however, ask for money to produce comp cards to network my child. I feel they were pretty straight with me, but after hearing about all the scams out there, I just can't be too sure. Any info about them would be helpful.

They are a scam if they refuse to let you hire your own photographer and have comp cards produced through a company you choose. A legitimate agency will represent you and they might recommend a photographer but they won't REQUIRE you to choose their people.
