Hi Michael;

Glad to see someone else who wants to help other vets! I am a Vietnam Vet (69-70 Meikong Delta ), I do a self help meeting for other Vets who suffer from PTSD as I do ( been doing it for 12 years ) appointed by the other Vets to be one of the two who are in charge, every Friday.

I get referrals sent to me from Dr's and other vets for help when they don't know what to tell them about a problem, and I work with vets I find on the web who need help.

To answer your question ( it varies by location ) your local VA hospitals use a lot of volunteers, in different jobs including just having someone come visit the sick who has no one to visit them ( I know its hard to believe but there are many vets who have no one to visit them in the hospital, or in old folks homes, or even veteran homes ( just remember they don't have to be Vietnam vets to appreciate your help, or visit ). Another place is DAV they do a lot of transporting of vets to hospitals and use volunteers to drive their vans, the AL and VFW does this in some locations. Some food kitchens use volunteers to carry hot meals to disabled vets. There are several organizations that use volunteers to help run camps , games, fishing trips for disabled vets.

Just remember this, dealing with some of this may bring back memories that you will not like but knowing you are helping other vets will get you through it,

If you think this is something you would like to do and need help finding a place, let me know what town, state ( no home address, never give that type of info out on the net to many crazy people out here, that run scams of the unfortunate, and those who are trying to help )

BEST OF LUCK IN YOUR QUEST, WISH WE HAD MORE WILLING TO HELP

LARRY (ALABAMA)
