I was stationed at Ramasun Station outside of Udorn Thailand in 1969 & 1970. I have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. I have filed a VA claim and need letters to support my claim. Specifically, I need verfication that the area around the ops building and antenna field were free of vegetationand were routinely sprayed. Second, I need verification that my flights to and from Thailand landed in Vietnam and that soldiers in fatigues got on the plane on the return flight. These soldiers had obviously just returned from the field. I don't have specific flight numbersers, etc. but I need someone to verify that flights routinely stopped in Vietnam on the way to and from Thailand.
Please contact me if you can be of any assistance,

Fort Polk Louisiana 1971-1971 for field telephone communication training. MOS 36 K.
Fort Hood, Texas 1972-1975 1st Cavalry Division Artillery.

I'd like to locate anyone stationed at any of these bases during the periods I've mentioned who were serving with me and knew me or who were at these bases and are aware of asbestos exposures of any kind. I have contracted asbestos while serving and the VA is denying my claim. Anyone who also has asbestos or you know anyone who lived in the old wooden WWII era barracks or worked in the old buildings and can recall construction inside your barracks Cieling or any others, can recall exposed asbestos wrapped pipes or who also had to maintain vehicles which included changing brakes, clutches, linings, belts. Please contact me. I need letters supporting my claim of work conducted in the ceilings of the barracks we lived and slept in. There were no protective barriers etc. We weren't assigned to the motor pool, but because we were mechanized we were required to maintain our vehicles. Please contact me asap! Would love to hear from you even if you have nothing for me, but we served together.
Also searching for any of the soldiers who were ordered onto the firing range at Ft Hood and as a result we were caught in artillery fire from tanks. I was driving.
Anyone stationed at Schweinfurt, Germany and guarded the Czech /German border. If you ever experienced the huge German shepherds tied to runners and used to attack anyone attempting to cross to freedom. Please contact me!

VIETNAM VETERANS AND FAMILIES THIS IS FOR ALL OF US. I ASK EVERY PERSON TO SPREAD THE NEWS TALK ABOUT THIS , POST ON FACEBOOK AND EVERY POSSIBLE WAY YOU CAN SHARE INFORMATION . THIS BEGINS WITH THE QUITE RUMBlE AND WILL BE LIKE AMERICAN . POWERFUL ,STRONG , LOYAL AND CONVICTION OF STEELE. VIETNAM VETERANS THIS IS YOU, THE WHY,WHERE,HOW AND REASON EVERYTHING GOOD FULL CIRCLE WAS SEWN . HISTORY AND TIME IS GOING TO BRING ALL OF WHAT IS VIETNAM TO EACH INDIVIDUAL AMERICAN ALIVE AND EVERY ONE THAT WILL LEARN WHAT IS VIETNAM FROM HISTORY WILL BE BINDING IT ALL INTO STRONGER ,CLOSER, STRENGTH,COURAGE, ENDURANCE AND TRIUMPH. IT IS YOUR LIFE, SACRIFICE ,COURAGE AND QUITE BURDEN YOU HAVE CARRIED THAT IS THE REASON AS THE FUTURE COMES THAT VIETNAM WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH HONOR COURAGE STRENGTH AND TRIUMPH FROM ADVERSITY. IT IS TYING US TOGETHER AGAIN. CLOSER AND STRONGER. EVERY MAN AND WOMAN THAT SERVED OR EXPERIENCE WHAT IT IS AND WAS FOR THEM SHOULD KNOW WHAT IT WILL BE. .......WILL BE.
Lt. Colonel John H. Hayes U.S. Army Special Forces first generation and one of the few men to first wear the Green Beret he showed President Kennedy the organization and training of his small gorilla units that live behind enemy lines with native population to gain intelligence and help people free from opression. second he being a gorilla warfare fighter.
Dad. He died two weeks after asking me to make sure Vietnam was not forgotten and remember his men were there that people didnt forget his men were there. He went to Vietnam until his death march 1984. less than six years into "retirement" at the age of 45 . twenty years almost to the day his boots hit Nam ( that was documented he was there) pancreatic cancer from decades of dioxin exposure. I was 13.
I am going to complete the third promise I made that night to my father it has been a part of my journey for 32 years . I NEED YOU VIETNAM VETERANS TO HONOR A VIETNAM VETERANS WISH HE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE BECAUSE YOU ARE HERE AND YOU ARE STILL THERE. DAD WAS THERE BEFORE PRESIDENT KENNEDY AND VIETNAM AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN EVEN RIGHT NOW. NEVER to doubt his patriotism, service or choice to be an American Warrior. Leader and wear the Green Beret. the "quite professional " A man the world will always need for living with basic human rights and human dignity on earth.
My daddy, we spent 13 short years together I know the world has to have men like him here. I have had 32 years here without him . Each day harder than the next. I pine for the thought that you a Vietnam Veteran will read this . Each and every soul to do so. I am going to copy and past this post all over the information highway. I asked you to do that for Him. Tell any human you are led to and copy and post this through the world. So every one still alive gets the message from their brother and commrade. John Hayes.
coming to share to the world soon for Vietnam Veterans , Dad and me. "A WALK WITH MY FATHER, Memoir of a Brat" My 13 years I was with the man who is why i am me. Why I need you and why you need to hear from me. I have had heard uneducated and sadly unaware people say Vietnam the war we lost. How can you lose a war that is not over? Men are still dying everyday living with war Vietnam. In 2014 one of our men came home to clarksville Tn . His tour of duty started in 1970. I am telling you that your commrade and brother did not want to leave you and would not leave , God made that choice. My life 45 years at this moment is , has been and will be living with the Vietnam war.I have more for us . This is not a war that I will see over in my lifetime ...........the will be ....will be .... is going to arrive one day. The good that is bringing us all closer together than before the war sewn into all that has been bad is here I get to see that in my lifetime.
AMONG SO MUCH I will share with you first his commrades my brothers and sisters.. the rest of the worlds population will catch up. The journals were to brief President Kennedy on the mission and objectives. The night dad ask me to take care of specific request he needed. He gave me a box of some things and told me to always keep it with me. I always have . I took it with me to the hospital when my son was born. It was the tools I needed to full fill the three promises and for me to help live a lifetime without him .It took me 32 years to understand , process and impliment what it all would do and how . He knew. I get to tell the world about an amazing man , one of the few elite , skilled , intelligent , deadly, cunning, educated , Over acheiving successful , leaders and Jungle warfare gorillas who was skilled in the art of Psychological warfare. ......thats just a sound bite. .......The Journals they were given to me. You see I was born with a federal security clearance , educated and raised by The first generation of U.S. Special forces men and the men who wore the Green Beret. I was picked up from pres-chool in a shnook , at many poker games and meetings , Under a desk in the U.S. Capital for a meeting. first hand and direct knowledge of missions to vietnam for extraction and recon in the 1980s. I knew the words to Ranger cadence songs and mission and hand signals for chopper landings before I spoke whole sentences. The vietnam war and the men who wore the Green Beret were my childhood 24/7 intil age 13. The world will learn about it if they choose to read it . I am telling it to take care of responsibility I have . For several reasons. My personal gain to write it all down and to share any of this in public a tool to overcome loss. The money the book makes . It is not mine and I do not want it. It belongs to the men and women that are Vietnam Veterans and Veterans of other conflicts. I look forward to writing the checks and handing them to you. Respectfully paying Uncle Sam any Homage due. ......there is so much yet to do. I do need your help . To take care of dad, to finish writing and publish the book. to assist you Vietnam service members for ehat you need , funding the missions to find our men in Nam and bring them home. While given the opportunity to possibly share back with the Families in Vietnam if else share grace forgiveness and kindness to a country America contributed Dioxin too, ......I enjoyed writing this long unedited paragraph of 32 years of wanting to talk, being the daughter of A "quiet Professional" I was the "quiet Brat" I am going to copy this and post it to every site that pertains to service members of Vietnam. I ask you please share this too. Dad is with you and you can help him to. I can contribute to us all GodSpeed and ..........the Journals from dads mission in Nam . They were supposed to be for President Kennedy and addresing the information on it all and asses the situation there in a breif period of time.....the rest we know , never intentions to be a war that has lasted 70 decades. on The Presidents part or The S.F. It went from Vietnam to me in 1984. I look forward to scanning it and letting you read too. The references that in high sight point to dad exposed to Dioxin through the years along with photographs of the barrels in photos in later years , his service records , medical records and documentation from day one until his tombstone all say Vietnam including his death certificate, The thought That the "powers that be" might shake a bit with welll preserved information , that covers every bit of a shut and closed case that dioxin killed my father quickly. Not the jack and coke and cigars at the poker games. ....little things like that make me feel warm and happy inside. Godspeed . Look for my social media sites I am putting up. I would like to see if the the minutes here from my first official therapy session will post. The memior will have paragraphs and commas , with spell check. just to clarify.
Godspeed

- Hoc Mon, Vietnam 1968 -- lynne higgins, 19:36:49 01/14/16 Thu
When I was 18, my uncle, age 21, was killed in Hoc Mon. He was more like a brother because we were so close in age and lived close to each other; it was a devastating loss to me and our family. Decades later a friend of mine went to Vietnam and I asked him to take a picture of Hoc Mon. He did better than that. He met some Viet Cong veterans who fought in the same battle that killed Eddy. One of them asked my friend to wait while he went home to get something to give me. Twenty minutes later he returned with a metal box and in it was his battle flag. I was compelled to write a book about it because I believe it was for everyone who suffered a loss in Vietnam, not just for me. It took me five years to write the story, but I've finished and it is for sale at Amazon.com. Type in The Box by Lynne Ludwick if you are interested in reading about this Viet Cong veteran who could have been the one to kill my uncle; Eddy was very special, good to the core, and a hard working young man. The book conveys who he was and the innocence of growing up in the fifties, who the Viet Cong veteran was (what I learned of him) and growing up in Vietnam, and the realities of the Vietnam War, and how I came to receive this amazing gift of forgiveness and remorse.

Have you been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis? This medical condition is also known as Interstitial Lung Disease, or "scarring of the lung". An item on page 16 of the Fall 2015 VIET NOW (Burning questions) reports that the VA continues to study long-term negative effects of exposure to burn pits and dust storms. Veterans indicated they have been diagnosed with either constrictive bronchiolitis or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. If you served in RVN it is common to have been exposed to AGENT ORANGE. I served in III Corps and disposal of human wastes was by burning. That's a double whammy to the lungs. Whether or not you are getting compensation for pulmonary fibrosis, I want to hear from you and will answer all communications. While In Country I was Senior Medical Advisor III CTZ, Tm 95 MACV, attatched to ARVN 73rd Med Grp.

- Recording VN Veterans Stories -- Roger C Johnson (ok), 16:50:08 08/16/15 Sun
Does magazine have a book section? We have written a book "Blue Devils in Viet Nam" which chronicles the lives of over 30 VN Vets from our small High School and town. It is very well done and very well could be a format by which other Vets would be able to tell their stories as well. If it interests your staff I can send you a more comprehensive folder further explaining our project. Our mission now is to reach as many Vets as possible so as to leave a frank and honest history of we Viet Nam Veterans, Thank you, Roger C Johnson

- My Father -- Cynthia McCrary-Harris, 23:46:19 07/14/15 Tue
Hoping to find someone that remembers my Father. CMSGT Jack McCrary. He flew c130's (flight engineer) beginning with Sewart AFB in the late 50's. We were stationed at Charleston AFB around 61 and he deployed to Nam in 67. His plane 64-0547 was considered MIA over Laos in Dec. of 67. He and 10 other crew members supposedly hit the karst of a mountain around the Black River...Special Ops...314th TAW..The plane was magically found in 92, over 800 bone and teeth fragments repatriated at the crash site...Only 8 men identified thru mtDNA, my Dad was not identified..After further research 2 years ago I found his name on the Last Known Alive list of 5 government web sites. It claims he made radio contact hours after the plane was reported missing. My family was never informed of this information at any time during his 11 years as declared MIA. Then the government decides they are to be listed as KIA years before the crash site or news of the site was ever discovered. KIA without any bodies, oh our wonderful peaceful governmental officials.
Just wondering if anyone knew him, could share a great story, share anything with me...I need to celebrate his valor and honor, his bravery and dedication...
Thanks Cynthia McCrary-Harris

After marching over to the back of the Battalion Hqtrs., we arrived at the maintenance bldg out back. Upon dismissal we turn about face and headed to the section of benches laid out from the side of the bldg. I am the one who ran head long into the air conditioning unit sticking out of the window at our end of the bldg. I was knocked out and taken to medical. I spent the next two weeks on no duty at the barracks. If anyone remembers this incident, please contact me. I need your help as the VA and the records center at St. Louis do not have this medical record on file.

- Contacting Chaplains who served in Vietnam -- Figlock, Thaddeus A (Ted), 11:27:43 03/26/15 Thu
The last time I saw CPT Jerome Bischoff was at Quang Tri, the week before Christmas, 1970. Previously, he had been a Chaplain at Ft. Devens, with 10th Special Forces. I served at Devens as 3108;Chief Ob-Gyn. He had a MASS at my quarters on Post on Elm St.,.Dec 1969. He took me to the nearby Basilica at Levang, dropped me off for a few hours, returned me to the Hospital at Quang Tri and I never saw him again. I have been unable to get a list of Chaplains who served in Vietnam and would appreciate any information available. Other Chaplains I met in RVN were Joe Smith and Carl Kulo. Thanks for your consideration. Ted.

Now that I have retired & have a lot of time on my hands, I thought I might be able to put what skills I have to good use. I'm a Vietnam Vet & understand the difficulties that come with that designation. I would like to help my fellow Vets in any way that I can. Does anyone know of a number or organization that can use some manpower for whatever is needed? I'm looking for Rockford, Illinois or surrounding area
I don't have a lot of cash, but have a willing heart & hands.

- Deceased vetran's family member looking for any information... -- Lorraine Houston-Janicke (hoping), 12:01:37 03/02/15 Mon
I am the neice of Sgt. Michael G. Houston, who served in the 101st Airborne from January 1969 - January 1971. He is a decorated veteran and after returning home to Rockford, IL, he was tragically killed on his motorcycle in August of 1974 at the age of 29. He volunteered at the age of 24 and was working in the DMZ I believe in June of 1969. If anyone served with him or knew him, I would be so grateful to hear any stories or make copies of any pictures you may have. I am presently working on a biography of his short life and his heroic efforts in Vietnam. My family is estranged and I have only a few items of his. He receieved a bronze medal and 11 other medals. I am in the process of getting replacements of these medals. Again, his name is: Sgt. Michael G. Houston from Rockford, IL. Please email me with any information or pictures you may have. I will be forever grateful to pay tribute to this wonderful man and all who have and continue to serve our country. Respectfully, Lorraine Houston-Janicke

I need help in finding a shipmate that can prove that I was in Camrahn Bay with VP22 between June 1968-1970. I have a cancer that is presumed to be caused by exposure to agent orange. I have been denied compensation as they can't verify that I was ever in Vietnam. Please let me know if you can help. I was an airplane mechanic and was with a detachment to Camrahn Bay and Utapao Thailand. I was stationed at Naha Okinawa and later Sangley Point. They live on his disability and her tiny SS check. The contractors just left and they are going to have to tear floor down to get to the broken pipe. They are up to their necks with hospital bills. - Help needed with Dad's DD214 -- Kim (McLead), 19:40:13 01/07/15 Wed
Hello, I'm hoping someone, somewhere will read this and be able to help. My Dad was drafted into the Army in 1959 and completed basic training at Ft. Carson Colorado, and was then transferred to Ft. Ord, California, where he was stationed until honorably discharged in 1962. He was in the reserves until 1965. I've been searching for a picture of his graduating class (boot camp or other) and have had NO luck. Also, in Box 12 of Dad's DD214, "Last Duty Assignment and Major Command" is typed ConCo ConGp (with UMP typed above ConGp) USACDEC Fort Ord, California. If someone can explain that to me, I would be forever grateful. I believe it is his company information, but I can't find any info that helps me decipher it. Thank you!

- Sometimes i WONDER why... -- HOWARD E. (DUCK) AKINS (Can't stop thinking...), 05:04:40 12/12/14 Fri
Sometimes I wonder WHY...I was just "thinking" one day. WHY is YOUR dealings(infomation/etc.) with the VA is "passed" on to the American Legion? All the TROUBLE i'm having from the VA trying to PROOVE this and that...being told there is NO records of ME or my UNIT doing ANYTHING. (Co B 2/18th Infantry First Inf. Div. Vietnam 68-69.)My POINT is if the American Legion can see everything that i'm trying to do is steady getting DENIED...out of all the YEARS have'nt THEY at least have "tried" to contact me? I found out where MY infomation has been sent.(the post) Right now i don't even want to go there !!! (pass it at times)Are they an organization to HELP a Veteran or an organization trying to gain MEMBERS? As of right now and early on I just don't want to be around Army anything...I go to the VA for medical, for some reason i just don't care for the enviroment. I went to anger management,it's certain people that make a person angry...being in these classes actually make you re-live many things,PLUS you can pick up a few things that will put you on HIGH alert!!! I think this is WHY i rather not be around...Most around me would never guess that i'm a Vietnam Vet...For me it's nothing to tell people about. It REALLY bugs me to hear certain people tell a LIE about what they done!!If you know anything about anything you KNOW pretty much what's going on when a person talk.Say you a mechanic...somebody say they changed plugs NO tools...just shake your head and walk off!!! What do the AMERICAN LEGION or ANY of them do "IF" you're not a MEMBER?

I don't know the specifics, but I believe he was a Capt. or Major at the time, and was with the 54th Artillery Group. If anyone sees this and his name rings a bell, feel free to contact me and share your memories. My dad's had a stroke since then, and his speech is impaired, but thankfully I jotted down some things when going through an old photo album of his from that time period prior to his speech going downhill. - residual agent orange -- philip h bracewell jr SSgt, USAF Retired (great), 18:06:08 05/28/14 Wed
trying to help a couple of Retired Vets that worked at the Bone Yard, D-M AFB, Tucson AZ who were involved in the refitting, storing, scrapping for parts, aircraft that were know to be assigned to Operation Ranch Hand Units. where is all available information as to the residual effects of agent orange and the rest of that shit located in hopes that they can process a VA claim for conditions, mainly cancer, that are associated with residual agent orange. how do they prove it since most of those aircraft have been scrapped for years now, but it is the only way they could have had contact with agent orange without being in Vietnam?
i am a 100% service connected disabled vietnam vet who over the past 30 years tries to help other vets in filing claims with the VA.
most vets, do not know or have never heard of 38CFR and how it can help them in filing claims, especially when they are being treated by civilian health care providers. as you know the wording must be exact as it is stated in 38CFR.

I was told I could not put in a claim for the Colon Cancer because it is not recognized as a presumptive disease. I was told it is now on the associated list but not yet classified Presumptive. If the Insitute recognizes it why not the VA?

- Looking for friends of Walt Ketts, vietnam airforce -- mary craven (craven), 17:00:16 04/15/14 Tue
Hi, My Brother is a Vietnam vet. He is dying of brain cancer. He is very troubled, and I am wondering if I can reach any of his buddies. All I know is that he was in the airforce, I believe he enlisted in 1968. I know he was stationed in DeNang. I am much younger then he, and don't remember many details. But he also had a buddy, Charlie, who was killed while on watch. Charlie was married. That is all I know. If you know, my brother or can point me to resources, I would greatly appreciate it. Best, and thank you to all, Mary

- Medical referral denial -- Al McNeill, 06:53:53 03/24/14 Mon
There is at least one physical issue that will probably affect the quality life of every veteran that has serviced this country. The care of your service-connected injuries will be directly affected by whom you choose to resolve any issues that a veteran will face in the present stage and future.
It will be equally important to look at who are superficial, misleading and will make inaccurate statements about veteran’s benefits for care. Your health care are not up for debate as mine has become.
I consider my service to this county as any veteran to be pivotal to its freedom, wealth and power. As an enlisted soldier rated 70% service-connected during the Vietnam Era and a Gulf War commissioned officer I have served faithfully only to be denied proper medical treatment.
One of the service-connected injury are for cholinergic urticarial (skin hives). The issue first developed in February 1976 during my active duty period in which I was being treated. In
December 2013, I begin to have daily chronic breakouts which required me to seek treatment in the VA emergency room twice.
The prescribed medical and ointment has not been affected however, the side effects causes drowsiness. I have been on a different prescribed medical since 2000 for skin hives which has not been effective.
Due to the continuous chronic daily breakouts I was referred to the VA dermatology clinic for further evaluation on March 3, 2014. The session did not provide any additional treatment or never medication for the hives. The doctor compared my issue to her son’s condition and unlined said “deal with the issue.”
I asked for a referral for an elevation outside the VA and was told it could not be done. On March 4, 2014 I talked with my primary care physician in hopes of getting a more professional referral to see an outside dermatology but was denied. I was asked if I had any additional insurance besides the VA during the conversation which should have no bearing.
The medical records in possession of the VA are self-explanatory as to my medical conditions which developed in fiscal year 1975. The VA is my primary care provider in which this is a service-connected injury which I am being denied treatment.
Prior to developing this condition I could engage in some activities during the winter
and summer season. The condition are affecting my job performance and affecting my social life. In addition the condition dues not allow me to be exposed to direct sunlight nor any environmental heat.
As to any questions of any support from service organizations or congressional aide it remains to be seen. They have isolated themselves but they want veterans to join and become life time members of their fan clubs and politicians expect a vote. Any additional infromation contact me at 303-249-2343. Thanks

- Looking for Marines (1st Battalion, 2nd Division, 4th Platoon) from Charlie Company that were at the fall of Siagon!! -- Traci L. Webster, 08:31:57 03/08/14 Sat
My husband, Nelson (Joe), was (or should I say IS...once a Marine ALWAYS a Marine!!),a Marine and was in-country during the fall of Siagon. Tour was 1974-75. I am searching for any other Marines that were there during that time. I'm trying to put together a jurnal/scrapbook that includes any information that I can find pertaining to buddies, missions, etc. It's very hard for him to talk about certain things that took place; and that is very understandable. He is Navajo and that in cunjunction with being a Viet Nam and serving in the National Guard as an MP several years after being state-side is why I wish to put together the journal. I feel EVERY vets story is important and must NEVER be forgotten. To forget these stories, however diffucult and hard to put on paper they may be, would be an insult to their service. I want to keep this journal in the family...generation to generation. Any Marines, especialy 1st Battalion, 2nd Division, 4th Platoon, Charlie Company please feel free to e-mail me with your stories. Hopefully you served with my husband! Thank you !!

- Re: Looking for anyone who served Okinawa 1966/1971 -- Armando Sanchez, 17:13:20 12/28/13 Sat
I was in Okinawa from July 1969 to February 1970. During my stay I was assigned to a Missle Site near the town of Yomitan. Site 1 was in the middle of heavy jungle brush and I remember civilian Okinawa crews spraying around the out side and inside perimeters of the fenced in compound. What concerns me is that in the later months of 1969 when the Okinawans were protesting the return of the islands to Japans we used to have mock drills to defend the site. During the alerts we were assigned to defend the site perimeter against any violent actions from the local populations. We were issued our rifles (no ammo) and our steel pots and we had to lay down on the ground to defend if the fence was breached. I now have diabetes, high blood pressure and not very good health. I wonder if the spraying of the crews to kill the brush had any agent orange in it.

- Aussie Trying to Find Original Owner of Tennesse Soldiers Helmet - Vietnam War -- William Sherman, 20:19:40 12/16/13 Mon
Dear Sir, Ma'am,
I am writing this to you because I am hoping to reunite an American Soldiers Helmet from the Vietnam War that I have had in my possession since I was around 6 years old.... over 35 Years and I would love to be able to return this Helmet to the owner or his family.
My Aunt bought me this Helmet from an Army Disposal Store in Perth Western Australia
My Father was an Australian Vietnam Veteran as well and I too served in the Australian Defence Force for 15 years.
The Helmet has the following "faint" markings
Tennessee Terror
Danang 69 - 70
a Peace Symbol ☮
An Arrow with three strikes at the end, and other markings to faint to see under normal light.
The soldiers name is very faint ... it could be Daitly Daily, Datley or even something completely different
I have looked on the internet and memorial walls, but I have had no luck, maybe you can help me
I have a youtube video here of the Helmet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSkdcjLUumw
Please pass on to any other jounalists if you cannot help, or this email is sent to the wrong person,
Yours Sincerely
William Sherman
Western Australia

- Death of a hero -- Donald Black (Sad), 06:58:51 12/04/13 Wed
My friend, hero, brother in arms, and Bronze Star w/V recipient, BOBBY DEAN ELLIS, has died as a result of Agent Orange contamination incountry '68-69. Some of us who cheated death in this useless and senseless war were unknowingly dealt a death card which the devil called at his option. It seems that often, the lucky ones died in battle, saving them from a fate worse than death itself.
Bobby fought that war with valor, and with valor fought death every step of the way. A good man, a good husband to his wife Gaye, a good father, and especially a Hero to all who knew and loved him.

- Vietnam Vets that didn't put in claim untill 2006 -11 -- Roger P Lemke ("Roger P" Fustrated), 12:15:41 09/20/11 Tue
I searved in Nam from Feb/66 to Apr/67. In May 1981 I had a MI, in 1984 had a 4/Bypass,and 2 more bypasses since then, also a defib/pase-maker. In July 1987 went on SS Disability. I didn't file a claim because I didn't know I could. On Oct 16, 2006, I filed for Diabetis Type II, CHD, and a few others, also IUTD. I Disagreed with the award date. (The retro compensation was great but I could have made a lot more pay if I was able to work till retirement).
In Dec 16, 2010 was awarded 100% Disability, retroactive only back to Oct 2006. I sent in a NOD and am in the process of doing the paperwork.
My question is: How many VietNam Vets out their, didn't even know to file when they came down with on of the diseases that the VA had on the list? (Untill now since it came out in the open with the 3 new disease which were put on the list). If it wasn't for my brother-in-law, I wouldn't have known anything about submitting a claim for CHD (IHS) and Diabetes II.
The VA is stating that if you didn't file then, you can only get compensation retroactive to the date you filed. They (VA) use the "Nehmer v. USAVA as their reasning. I feel I am being penalize because I didn't file back in July 1987, or even in 1981 for the MI
If their are any Viet Nam Vets with or had the same problem, please send me a E-mail rogeroa@roadrunner.com. The more Vet's we have the better chance we have of getting better results. I just want what is due me after all I have gone through (Heart problems and lost wages).

- Contact with family of Larry Dee Brock who was my roomate in OCS in 1968 -- Bob (Sam) Brucker, 20:41:36 01/25/12 Wed
I recently read a poem in Winter 2010 edition of "VietNow". The magazine had been around my apartment for quite a while and I was getting ready to throw it out, but first I decided to take a quick look at some of the articles. I noticed one writing entitled: "You Were My Son", but it was late and I wasn't sure if I was up to the task of reading this undoubtably sad poem. Somethimg told me that I should read this poem ; and it was very moving to me , especially considering that my only son recently became the father of his own son. At some point while reading, I glanced down to the bottom of page and noticed the name Larry Dee Brock - my former roomate and friend from OCS at Ft.Benning. I finished reading the poem with tears in my eyes. I knew Larry had been killed in VN and I knew Larry was a great guy but now hearing(reading)his mother talk(write)about him was so very moving. I also felt some guilt because , even though years ago I made an etching of Larry's name at the VN Memorial wall in Washington, I never tried to contact Larry's family. Well, that's what I'm trying to do now. I would like to say hello to Larry's mother, his daughter, his former wife or any other relative or friend, and offer my much belated condolences; and perhaps tell one or two stories about LARRY DEE.

- Seeking Professional Service -- Flo (Very frustrated), 11:03:25 02/06/11 Sun
My husband can’t help himself. That why I am here as his surviving spouse. My husband was a former Marine in 1965-1969. He committed suicide in October of 1973. I have been seeking survivors benefit from the VA through the years, all to no result. In my opinion, my husband committed suicide as a direct result of his service in Vietnam. I have medical records to show that while in country, my husband was hit in the mouth with a butt of a rifle, and I assumed this was in combat. Once my husband returned to civilian life, he has had many problems. Some in service that I notice, but didn’t pay to much attention too. These problems led to him taking his own life. I have multitude of records that shows my husband was suffering from something once he returned from Vietnam. He was an entirely different person upon his return. My husband’s employer (Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.) kept a paper trial indicating instances where my husband just went off the charts in dealing with those he worked with each day “before” he ended his life. My husband quit his job twice. The first time, I was able to have them put on sick leave, providing he get some help for his issues. The second time he quit it was a done deal at that time, my husband was only 27 years old. The VA Medical Center, Brecksville, Oh, from 4/17/1973-5/03/1973, where he was a patient was reviewed and considered. The final diagnoses were anxiety neurosis and paranoid personality. The VA responded. “It would require to resort to speculation to conclude the veteran had post-traumatic stress disorder. It would further require to resort to speculation to conclude that the claimed post-traumatic stress disorder was the direct and proximate cause of the veteran’ suicide. Therefore, the evidence you submit must relate to this fact.” What I gather from the VA. I need a psychiatrist or a psychologist to review and to evaluate his records that I have. I am having a hard time finding someone to do that for me. My back is against the wall. I need some help with this one. Does anyone have any ideas?

- Kidney Stones -- Franklin D. Murphy (Curious), 12:59:50 05/06/13 Mon
I have had trouble with kidney stones and urinary tract infections, and I was probably exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam in 1967 because we flew out of base camp in Tua Hoa to 10 differentnt locations in S. Vietnam during my year there. Had lithotripsy to break up stones in 2005 and 2007 and was hospitalized with UTI in 2000, and in 2011 UTI pushed my temp up to 107 (yeah, WOW) before I was taken to the hospital by ambulance and treated, with urinary backup causing me to wear a catheter for severals days. Going to Gainesville VA Hospital on May 17, 2013 for the the Agent Orange Registry Exam. Sorry to hear on this website that VA doesn't connect these problems with Agent Orange exposure. More than 600,000 have take the Agent Orange Resgistry Exam, and if they keep asking about a kidney stones or UTI connections, maybe VA policies will change. They have after other studies were completed. Would appreciate any advice/comments.

- hepatitis c -- arthur j fryer, 08:45:52 04/10/13 Wed
I am currently trying to start a hepatitis c support group for all veterans with the disease from any branch and era served.
In dec 1978 while stationed with the 1st Bn 39th mechanized infantry 8th infantry division Baumholder Germany we were given a flu shot live vaccine by air gun and needle.
After the flu shot was done the unit had a hepatitis outbreak and was quarantined for a period of time.
I eneded up getting the flu the same day with a temp of 104.6 and was given a IV which was already used on someone else. I was patient number 52 and at least 30 others came in after me.
When I went to Charlie company to get the flu shot I wentr with roy, red, cagola and little rock and roy was the third guy in front of me.
I have made contact with roy and he told me he had hepatitis at the time he got the flu shot and they used a needle instead of airgun which stoped working.
The medics took the needle and put it in the veil with the liver flu and one after another gave us the shot with the same needle.
I have found 2 others besides myself from my company bravo who have hep c and 4 others from the unit in other companys.
The medics broke into the safe that contained the narcotics which were designated for war time and used needles to extract the narcotics and shared with each other and one medic died of drug overdose and was found to have the virus in his blood.
During this time hep c was known as non A and non B hepatitis since it was not discovered till 1989 and not tested for till 1992.
The support group for veterans to help each other with the disease and maybe help in time prove to the va like agent orange that veterans did get hep c through airgun innoculations.
I am aslo looking for Dwight attaway who was in bravo and a Vietnam vet who I last saw in ft McClellan Alabama.
I would love for others who were in the 39th during this time to contact me at arthurfryer2beking or my home phone 352-503-2569 and please leave a message since I am not home between 10am to 8pm and I will get back with you.
all veterans from the 39th infantry any company in the unit that have hep c and all others veterans who have it please contact me so we can get this support group going and help each other get service connection or at the very least the needed medical attention needed.
God bless to you all.

- New Book about the search for a POW (Korea) -- Joe Carvalko, 11:41:19 03/25/13 Mon
Recently We Were Beautiful Once, Chapters from a Cold War, a Novel, (Sunbury Press, Feb. 2013), was released. As indicated below, the story, inspired by true events, is about the search for a certain POW in Korea, and more to the point how PTSD affects some men for their entire lives. It can be found at: http://www.amazon.com/We-Were-Beautiful-Once-ebook/dp/B00BH1L8IY/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1361354128&sr=1-4&keywords=carvalko
We Were Beautiful Once is a psychologically complex courtroom novel that builds an intriguing web of events, creating a sustained sense of anticipation from chapter to chapter in the mold of John Grisham’s The Pelican Brief, where trial lawyer Nick Castalano tries to uncover the fate of Roger Girardin, MIA during the Korean War, and discovers he may have been murdered in a POW camp. Before the war, Jack O'Conner, Hamilton, Girardin and Julie, Girardin's girlfriend and Jack's sister, hung out. In part the story follows the lives of the survivors, who after the war, with Roger's disappearance and Jack and Trent having spent years in a North Korean hell-hole, change dramatically, notably Jack goes through life a victim of PTSD, teetering on the edge of insanity (believing he may have killed Girardin) and that his murderous act will be discovered by his sister, who waits her entire life for Roger’s return.
Josip Novakovich wrote: “Carvalko has written a wonderful military mystery novel, with great authentic details and deep psychological insights--a thrilling trip into our past.” Novakovich is a current nominee for the Man Booker International Prize 2013, Whiting Writers' Award recipient and bestselling author of April Fool’s Day, Yolk, Salvation and Other Disasters, Infidelities: Stories of War and Lust.
Da Chen wrote: “Carvalko writes with such convincing realism and lyricism that I was at once brought into the landscape of his literary vision and grip of his storytelling. His prose is wiry and wise, steely yet soulful. His tales are tethered to real life, lived and thoroughly pondered. In right light, he is a cross between James Patterson and Scott Turow, only wiser and much more generous.” Chen is New York Times bestselling author of Colors of the Mountain, a memoir, Brothers, a novel, and My Last Empress, a novel.
Bio
Joseph Carvalko is an American writer, lawyer born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The novel, We Were Beautiful Once, Chapters from a Cold War was inspired by a case he tried in Federal Court to locate a Korean War POW. A 2004 documentary "Missing, Presumed Dead: The Search for America's POWs" narrated by Ed Asner details his trial efforts. In addition to numerous professional and academic writing, other of his publications include: The Techno-Human Shell-A Jump in the Evolutionary Gap (2012), which details the rapid rise in cyborg-like technology; A Road Once Traveled, Life from All Sides (2007); and A Deadly Fog (2004). In 2012, he was one of two finalists for the 2012 Red Mountain Press Prize for Poetry, for The Interior, A Memoir; and one of three finalists for the 2012 Esurance Poetry prize, for his poem The Road Home. He is a veteran of the 307th Bomb Wing ('59-'64) When he is not writing, he plays jazz piano. He, his wife Susie and four cats live between the Connecticut and Florida coastal areas.

- Searching For Vietnam Veteran Father -- Shane Roberson, 18:29:53 03/16/13 Sat
Hi, my name is Shane Roberson and I am searching for my biological Vietnam Veteran Father and or any family members of his. My father does not know that I exist. My father was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington in 1968 into 1969 before he was deployed to Vietnam. We have very little information about him but the information we do have is as follows: His first name was James (Jim) with last name being pronounced Minick or Munich we believe. We were told that he was an officer (2nd Lieutenant) and for part of the time he was stationed at Ft. Lewis he lived or stayed off base in two different apartments that we know of. The first one we know of was off of South Tacoma Way and 90th street. The second apartment we were told was in Lakewood. My mother used to work at the PX on Ft. Lewis fitting soldiers for military uniforms and selling military emblems and brass. My mother’s roommate at the time was Chris Newcom who was a German resident here in the United States working for the PX. My mother and her roommate had lived in a brick apartment off of Pacific Avenue. My father is believed to have been born in 1945, 1946 or 1947 we were told. My mother was told by my father that his parents did not speak English. It is believed that his family was of German decent. My father had been told by my mother that she was pregnant, and a brief meeting was held between my mother, her step father, my father and the military on Ft. Lewis. At the meeting they decided not to do any financial support other than the cost of my birth. Prior to him leaving for Vietnam half the cost of a birth was paid to my mother and the remainder of the cost of the birth had been sent to her from someone he knew stateside after his departure to Vietnam. My mother and father had no further personal contact after his deployment to Vietnam. My mother’s name at the time she knew my father and worked at the PX was Patricia A. Roberson. Please take the time to like and share my story, I would very much like to find my father, any and all siblings and any relatives I have. Dad, you have 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren! Looking forward to the day I get to hopefully meet you.

- good health statement required to return home -- Brent Mitchell (puzzled), 12:45:26 03/12/13 Tue
Hello, In March of 1966, I was processed out of Vietnam at Tan Son Nhut after serving a year with the 1st Infantry. At the time I was ill and had been for some time. A form was presented to me for my required signature that I was free of illness. After asking what would happen if I didn't sign, I was informed I was to remain in Vietnam until well.
Since I wasn't getting well, I had no intention of remaining there with improper care any longer, so signed the form , and was not provided a copy. A few years ago when living in Iowa, I gave an agent orange physical to VA
in Iowa City. I mentioned to them about the form I signed.
Reluctantly, he said a few were at that time were required to sign that form, however the letters were pulled and destroyed so that no evidence would exit that anyone was denied an opportunity to report anything for the record. This effectively prevents me or anyone from claiming compensation or disability. I would appreciate any info corncerning this experience. Thank you. Brent
