Let's look at a hypothetical experiment for a minute...
Here's some points to consider b4 we do:
ARPB can't compete with all tha dot.coms out there selling enyone and everyone gear and p8nt because we don't do their volume. We try to keep our prices low so playas can enjoy some action without going in debt or driving half way across tha world to play. We don't charge for air if you pay yer field fee and we give you yer field fee if you buy a case of p8nt from us. Air aint't cheep and we drive over 50 miles each week to have it available for you, it's a 100 mile drive to get yer p8nt for ya just so we can keep tha freight costs down. We let you BYOP and don't charge you extra if you bring it. We provide a website and BBoard and try to keep both updated on a daily basis. We offer a program for playas to earn credits for p8nt, air, field fees and gear by helping us at tha field since we don't have a full time staff on payroll. We take pics of rec/tourney play and post them to our site so you can see yourselves in action when you get home. We provide a stocked Pro Shop and Playa's Lounge, have tunes jammin' during play and provide cold A/C, a player mister, drinks and snacks, a phone and restroom facilities for everyone. We offer tha best service we possibly can and try to keep tha field maintained and tha layout changed up regularly.
All of the above requires a lot of time and $$ - the rent and light/phone bills come due on tha 1st of every month!
OK, here's the experiment -
ARPB Field and Pro Shop will be closed on Saturdays from let's just say now until November 1st. Field fees on Sundays (1pm - 5pm) will be $20.00, a $10.00 all day air card will also apply. It will be Field Paint Only, no BYOP, and Field P8nt will be $70.00 case, premium p8nt will be $80.00 case - no free field fee for buying a case. Rental gear will be $15.00 per playa if needed and no group discounts except on 20 or more. Tha website will not be updated on a daily basis and pics will only be available when we have time to take them. Tha Pro Shop will order gear and parts on an as needed basis and all purchases will be cash up front, no more credit. We will not host any events and will not have refs, everyone will be on the "honor system" during play. The ref/staff credits program will be discontinued. Drinks and snacks can be brought to tha field if you want any, because tha store across the street is closed on Sundays.
Other fields are already doing most of the above and they have regular playas showing up, so it can't be so bad.
Kay and I can get some work done around tha house on Saturdays or go fishing together (she misses that!) or I can do some odd jobs to make a few bucks so we can pay tha rent/light/phone bills when they come due.
Might be worth trying just to see what works out tha best for EVERYONE - we'll hafta think about it.
