I would just like to post my holiday review in the hope that it may help anybody thinking of going to Tenerife for a holiday.

We booked flights, hotel and hire car seperately to get a better bargain. I must admit we were a bit worried by some of the reviews we had read on here but there were some good ones as well so we thought we would just wait and see. We were pleasantly surprised when we got there. The room which was in the old building was fine, it was clean, had a tv, no sign of the roaches mentioned by other people. There was adequate cooking facilities and a fridge. What more could you expect from 3* self catering apartments? We had a fantastic sea view from the balcony. The pool areas were clean and had bars and a BBQ close at hand. The cleaners came to the door every day to clean and change towels etc. The only downside to the pool areas was the need people felt to book sunbeds with their towels (Brits as well as the norm). It wasn't so much a lack of beds it was where to put them as all the best places were being booked up.

The only other negative (in my opinion)was the hotel entertainment. On the 2nd or 3rd night they advertised latin dancing and we decided to have a look as my wife likes that sort of thing. When we arrived the kids disco was still going on, so we thought we would have a drink and wait. The disco consisted of a nonstop tape, no DJ, no supervision and kids running around screaming. The only staff to be seen seemed more interested in selling raffle tickets. When the Latin dancing started it turned out to be 3 young girls (20ish) doing their best but looking very amaturish. Needless to say we didn't go to any other hotel entertainment nights.

The resort was a bit hilly and the heart attack hill is well named. In Puerto Santiago itself there were a few bars/restaraunts of varying nationality, mostly providing a decent service. Some of them have live acts nightly, again some being very good and some not so good depending on your preference.

We tended to go to the nearby resort of Los Gigantes. It was only a ten minute walk around the shoreline (if you find the shortcut). We were lucky enough to find the Highland Paddy(1) bar (there are 3 of them in the area). The bar was a bit quieter than the bars in the village square and we found that made it more enjoyable in the respect that you were'nt just a face in the crowd to the bar staff. The two lads behind the bar (Mass and Wayne)helped to make this one of the best holidays we have had in a long time. They held nightly quizes and karaoke. There were people of all ages in the bar from kids to....well lets say the over 30s. The bar had a great atmosphere in it and this was thanks to the two lads. If you fancied something a bit more lively there was the Highland Paddy (3) and The Green Corner in the village square and they had a bit more action going on. Saying that we were in our "local", the HP1 until the wee small hours every night.

On New Years Eve we went to the village square for the fireworks and party, I think the whole of Tenerife was in the square that night.

Overall I would highly recommend both the resort and the hotel to anybody and would quite happily go back again myself.

Hope this helps
Oz
