Subject: 5th airforce mugs

I have two coffee mugs with the 5th airforce insignia on one side and a cartoon camel wearing headset and antenna's
superimposed over japan and south pacific. Inscription reads: "Camel Control - The Eyes & Ears of Kyushu, Japan".
The bottom has a makers mark: Yamaguchi-China, around a purple flower. All hand painted. Can someone give me history of these mugs.
