Subject: I drove a Jeep when I was at Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam in 1964.

I drove a Jeep only once when I was at Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam in 1964.I had a girlfriend who worked at a bar on Nguen Hue (Street Of Flowers) street in downtown Saigon right across the street from the U.S.O. (she had a sister who worked at the bar at a hotel just up the street on the
corner, I used to stop at the hotel bar and buy a glass of elephants milk. I used to bring them sandwiches and things from the U.S.O. and they would get me to buy them things from the P.X.store in Saigon) One night I "borrowed" a Jeep (it was a Ford MUTT Jeep) and drove downtown to visit my girlfriend. About fifteen minutes later I was heading on back to our company unit at Tan Son Nhut and one of them old 1930's or 1940's Citroen cars came swinging wide from around a corner and I had to go to dodging that Citroen. I got back to Tan Son Nhut and I parked that Jeep exactly where I found it. No one even noticed it went missing. I can still see that Citroen car right now :{) Otherwise, almost every day, I drove a Duce and a half truck. One day while I was on my way back to work after chow at our 114th Aviation Company unit (I worked in Ammunition Supply) about six miles North of Tan Son Nhut, I was playing around with the air valve under the dash board. It was in the Monsoon season over there. I went off the road and ploughed into the mud in the ditch .I sat there till somebody came by and I told them to call somebody with a wrecker to pull my truck out of there. A short while later, a big Air Force wrecker truck came and pulled me out of the ditch. I told the Captain a bumblebee had got into the truck and I was trying to shoo the bee away.
