Here is one of the emails I got from the guy from New Jersey I told you about this afternoon. He won't talk to me anymore since I reminded him about that post he knocked over with that truck. One time, some guys in my unit were taking some ammunition to one of our bases at Bien Hoa, which is not far from Saigon. The Vietcong had attacked the base the day before. We were delivering the ammunition with some trucks. One of the things I remember of that day after we had unloaded the ammunition was when some of us guys went looking around the area and one of the guys ran over a snake in the road. He backed up and ran over the snake again and later on, one of the trucks got a flat tire. There just happened to be a French made tire changing device in the area. The tire-changing device had a sort of split nut gadget on it, which made it very easy to change the tire on the wheel of the truck. The Vietcong had mortared the base in Bien Hoa and some guys were killed. It was a terrible sight. One of my duties at Tan Son Nhut each morning right after breakfast was to go to the Main gate and pick up the Vietnamese guys and one Vietnamese woman who worked in our Company unit and drop the Vietnamese woman off at an office on the way back to where I worked. The Vietnamese guys worked at the ammunition supply point with me and the other American guys. The first three and a half months I was in Vietnam, I was at Vinh Long. Till I ticked off a certain Major Rosa and he had me transferred to Tan Son Nhut. I liked Tan Son Nhut much better because Tan Son Nhut is near Saigon and lots more things to do than at Vinh Long. Thanks, Major Rosa!
