Subject: chaplain's jeep; leyte & luzon

My father, Colonel Hudson B. Phillips, was division chaplain of the 11th Airborne in WW II. He served throughout the New Guinea and Philippine campaigns, then left to become 11th Corps chaplain. In Leyte he had his jeep fitted out with a non-regulation "chaplain's flag" so that he could be easily spotted. It featured a white cross on a dark blue field. His CO, General Joseph Swing, was unhappy about it, but he flew it throughout the war.
best wishes -- TP
