I think it's hooey...did they ask the kids? In my experience, the bullying is much more to blame for why kids don't participate. I've been overweight my whole life and have never been unable to do anything asked of me in school...and that includes a long hike up the Royal Gorge to collect rocks! What are they doing in K these days that would make heavier kids unable to participate???

I would say that if the statistics are true, it's because overweight girls get so tired of being bullied and harrassed that they disengage from school...and try to get out as soon as possible to avoid being a target all the time.

A second factor would easily be socio-economics. Why are people poor? Because they're uneducated and unable to find a good job. Why are they uneducated? Well, maybe largely because they don't have the mental capacity to learn as well as others. This is why the other survey that came out this week...the one that said that tall people are smarter than short people...didn't surprise me much.

That said, obviously not all people are tall because have good nutrition due to their parents being more intelligent and having a better job. And, not all short people are short because they have bad nutrition because they come from a gene pool that is less intelligent and can't find good work. How would you explain my family...where the men are all 6" or taller and the women are all 5' 6" or shorter...with most of us being under 5' 3"? And, in my family everyone except my uncle Lloyd and I is skinny.

What are your thoughts???
