[> I so disagree with this....The Marine Corps is just as important & has helped shaped Mac's life as the Navy has Harm's....just b/c she's a woman doesn't mean her career isn't as important as Harm's is, & she has also been just rewarded with a Command Position, something that is pretty uncommon for women in the military. Harm got his career back after he resigned (which BTW Mac knew nothing about), & I don't think its fair that she has to be the one to give things up to follow Harm to London. She also has been given a vote of confidence with being handed her own command...Inside.... -- JNTS, 13:30:51 05/27/05 Fri

Harm has his 20 years in, so along those lines of thinking why can't Harm retire? He'd get his full benefits & pension, whereas Mac wouldn't. He being a pilot, has more career opportunities in civilian life than Mac does, so the argument can be made where the logical assumption is for Harm to be the one to resign.

For the record, I don't want either to resign....if they are going to be together, then let them BOTH give up their respective new duties & find a place that they can both be together, albeit obviously in different divisions or chains of command.

It really bothers me that its *assumed* that Mac be the one to give up her career just because she's the woman. The Marine Corps is her life, it has defined who she is, she's become a high ranking officer and has accomplished a lot. The Corp gave Mac her foundation, it shaped her life and gave her structure after a very rough beginning. To say that the Navy is Harm's life but the Corps isn't Mac's life is IMHO not fair...the Marines are just as much a part of Mac's life as the Navy is Harm's....

My feeling is that since TPTB *chose* to bring Mattie back into the equation, that Harm is the one who either resigns or become re-stationed, because Mattie is HIS responsibility, he's the one that has pursued the guardianship of Mattie, and IMHO San Diego is a better place for Mattie to recoup.....Mac mentioned a fine hospital in San Diego, the climate is better, plus there would be a support staff already there in the form of Harm's parents. Harm may not be the closest to his parents, but they are local, and they can *assist* with Mattie if need be....In London, there wouldn't be others to assist.....

That's why I'm glad that there was no resolution to the coin toss....that it wasn't decided either way...the Harm fans can say its time for Mac to quit and they go to London...the Mac fans can say Harm has his 20 years, Mac also has a great Command opportunity, Harm's family is in San Diego they go to San Diego....others can say they couldn't work it out and they both went to their separate commands...or they both said NO, stayed in Washington or the surrounding area, one transferred either to the Pentagon, Annapolis, the Judiciary, and they started their family there....

I liked the ending...I was still hopeful for an S11 where'd we see Mac in a Command type role, but I am satisfied with the way things ended and am happy that BOTH characters found love and happiness with each other....no matter what obstacles they will face, they will do so as one, and I'm satisfied with it :)

[> [> First off women have been in Command since the 70's . I had several during my six years in the military. -- peter, 14:17:37 05/27/05 Fri

One was a major who replace a colonel. 1978

another was a captain. 1981

both commands would be considered in what today is considered High Tech research and developement.

My point where as the Marines are important to Mac, the show has made the point over the last six years that Mac is interested in having a family.

With her medical condition and wanting children, she would want to reduce the stress in her life.

If JAG had gone on to a 11th season, what you pointed out probably could have happen.

Harm and Mac getting married.

Mac in command of her new unit.

Harm in private practice with maybe a guest appearance once or twice next season. He would be taking care of Mattie.

Also if there was an 11th season we might have seen a wedding, though highly unlikely.

The main point here still JNTS is that JAG ended positivily for everyone.

Many shows like enterprise and NCIS killed someone off.

[> [> [> JAG has also made it a point Peter that Harm is interested in having a family as well..so maybe the Navy isn't everything to him? He's the one that has brought up the baby deal the past two times, he wanted to be Mattie's Guardian....that's all I'm saying, family is just as important to Harm as it is to Mac, just like BOTH their careers are important to them & have helped shaped them both. I just don't think its fair to say that Harm's career means more to him than Mac's does, when its apparent that both have been successful in their respective branches of the service...Inside... -- JNTS, 14:38:26 05/27/05 Fri

I *agree* with you on the fact that JAG ended satisfactorily. I'm very satisfied with the ending, where people can have their own endings & beliefs for the future. I'm not complaining one bit about the finale, just the comments that Mac's career isn't important.

Yes I know females have been given command positions, however, you have to admit that it is still a rarity in today's military, and it was just as big an accomplishment for Mac to be given her own command as it was for Harm....that's why to me, either both just say NO and they both find something suitable where they can be together, they BOTH retire so one isn't still in and one isn't, or they postphone things (i.e. wedding) until they can be stationed together....

That's why I like the fact there wasn't a concrete resolution shown...we can all think what we want too :)
