there were actually very few episodes produced. If you watch it, you will recognize many of the characters, plot lines, etc. There is the affable, intellligent yet unmovitated employee who constantly plays tricks on the obnoxious Assistant to the Manager and has a thing for the secretary who is dating a blue collar boor. The boss is also lazy, ineefectual and trying to make everyone think he is an hilarious, one-of-the-guys type of boss. The main difference between the two shows - and it's pretty typical of the differences between English and American fare - is that the American version is predicated on the notion that all of these characters are at their core very likeable people who manage more or less to be happy despite their faults and their life station. In the British version, there's much more a sense of sadness and darkness. While you feel sorry for the delusions of grandeur for the boss, you are simultaneous repulsed by him, for instance. I guess the main difference is that the American version shows you can be happy no matter what - while the British version is more about people finding pockets of amusement in an otherwise sad and pathetic life.
