... we live in a duplex down here and the duplex mates were a couple of gay social workers who had already lived here for 6-7 years. nice enough guys, all except for one of their dipshit shnauzers barked ALL of the fucking time they weren't home.

well, one of them gets a new job in Atlanta so they decide to have a series of yard sales to dispose of the bunch of shit they can't take with them. now it's next to impossible that somebody would have a yard sale and not have something that i wouldn't be interested in taking off of their hands, but these guys amidst all their gay sloughed-off crap managed to pull off this singular incredible feat. being next door i even managed to get first crack at the inventory, but no soap. crappy faux Chinese pottery knick-knacks, gimmicky as-seen-on-TV exercise equipment, odds & ends kitchen utensils, just nothing they put out there so much as seriously tempted me to pull the trigger and give it a new home next door. just imagine my incredulity.

so finally after they pull off in their U-haul i do the obigatory rummage through the stuff left on the curb and what do i scavenge but 2 kickass hardcover dictionaries (Webster's 9th New Collegiate & the New College edition of the American Heritage dictionary) plus the really BIG prize, my very own practically mint hardback copy of the 14th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style!

wow, i'd have paid good money for any of those but they just threw them away after not even offering them up to anyone, the intellectual snobs. talk about good things happening in threes!
