Oh boy, Friday night I fell asleep with Raiya and then it is always hard for me to check the boards on the weekend. Lots going on here.

First, Dh and his job. He won two performance awards for the special assignment he was on July-December. Great to be recognized but the awards only totalled $200! Nothing like the glory days of high-tech!! Things on the money front are better. They have discontinued the mandatory week off a month and will do layoffs again. He has been told that he and his group are safe. We dropped out of the employee stock purchase plan which bumped his check up 10% (a huge help!) and we got a big tax refund thanks to our loss on the renting out our old house. So our savings are being built back up and I don't have to fret so much over the grocery bill!

Alexander. Overall he is doing great. He has started swimming lessons at the Y. We are hoping that it will build his confidence and improve his coordination and hand strength. His lack of fine motor coordination was noted at his pre-K parent-teacher conference. Nothing big. Just his muscular strength in his hands is a bit weak and it limits his pre-writing skills. He doesn't have good pincher grip (Raiya is way ahead in this) and this combined with his perfectionism, means that he avoids writing. I'm hoping that maybe stencils will help. Any other ideas? He also doesn't handle frustration very well and tends to run off and hide. So we are working on that too. We are giving him new responsibilities around the house (setting the table) and have new rules about mealtime (no TV, everyone at the same table, and food served family style). We may add either music classes or karate in the fall. He will be going to kindergarten at the same private school where he has attened pre-K. Most of his classmates will be going to other schools but our neighborhood school is weak. His current teacher is moving up to K, and we think that knowing her plus being the 'old hand' to all the new kids will help him blossom at school next year. He never quite fit in this year.

He and Raiya usually get along really well and it is a joy to see how they love and care for each other. Raiya is above average in almost everything but size. She's small but very verbal and articulate. She has strong ideas and opinions. She loves to draw and color and do artwork. She loves her fish. And her new obessesion is digging up worms! She is counting and recognizing letters and I suspect that we might have an early reader on our hands (she's not quite 2 and 1/2).

Me. The class that I'm teaching is finishing up. Its been quite draining given current events to be teaching a class on contemporary world issues in the Middle East. My disseration chair is taking a new job in NY so I have even more reasons to finish up the dissertation. We have guest this week and then my mom comes the next week and my sister in mid-May. After that the kids will both be in extented daycare and I will be focusing on the dissertation. We are still thinking about baby number three. The OB says that she doesn't think that my slightly irregular cycles are affecting my fertility so we have some time. I want another baby badly but worry about surviving morning sickness (it really incapacitates me) and then possibly weeks of bedrest again. Sometimes I think about adoption but I'm not sure that I know how to mother a new baby without nursing.

The weather is gorgeous here but the air is full of pollen and the whole family is suffering.

I'll be lurking and keeping Tammy, Marsha, Ginger, Donna, Kari, Andrea and Todd and everyone in my prayers.

Sharon
