This month's Car & Driver says it's not coming to the U.S.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/car_shopping/latest_news_reviews/infiniti_readies_direct_injection_for_m37_and_g37_unsure_about_new_q_car_news

"... both trucks will be built in Japan on a traditional ladder frame shared with a new Nissan Patrol, which remains for overseas markets only."

Which doesn't surprise me, because of U.S. praiseworthiness standards, which are the strongest in the world. When that article says "globally", that doesn't mean the U.S. per se.

Think about that car that's been in the news lately, the one that is for India and goes for only two grand. That would never be the case in the U.S., if for no other reason than we require airbags, which cost at least $1,500 per car. But the real problem is the structure of the car. A car like that would just disintegrate in a crash, so it would never pass U.S. crash standards.

Besides, right now the last thing Nissan would come out with is another SUV. Sales have been abysmal, and Nissan makes three SUVs now, plus the Murano which is a "crossover vehicle".

When I was in Aruba, I went past the one Nissan dealer there, so I stopped in, and it was the weirdest thing. There was a Patrol in the showroom, (the only one I've ever seen), but there were no people anywhere to be found. No one in the showroom, no one in the service department- nowhere was there a single human being. I always think of that when I think of the Patrol.
