have experienced a problem with the fuel sending unit, specifically the connector for it corroding and leaving us stranded.
The connector is found under the rear right seat, under a panel that can be opened after removing a few fasteners.
My local mechanic repaired the connector, and sealed it after the repair.
This was a big problem, and I Nissan eventually had a recall for it. You should ask to find out if your issue is really the fuel pump and not the sending unit. You might luck into a freebie.
As for the timing belt, I let my mechanic take care of that and the water pump every 100K. I don't know if it's really that difficult, but he can sure do it a lot faster than I can.
