Subject: 05 Trailer Harness Question

Hope someone know the answer to this question. Have an 05 Off Road without the factory tow package. Bought an aftermarket hitch, and wiring harness. Installed, and discovered the taillights do not work (brake & turn signals do). I took a closer look at the instuctions for the wiring harness, and it states that the taillight function will not work unless an OEM relay harness is purchased. Has anyone else gone through this and solved the problem? Any advice is appreciated.
