You are right. The elite players need to perform week in week out at the highest level. I now live in Australia and suffer all the slings and arrows that an under-acheiving team draws but here the top players have to deliver the goods in the super 12 or they will be replaced. Each super 12 team has players on the bench that directly threaten the established players.

  • While I accept that Wales can 't sustain more than a handful of fully professional clubs with squads of 30+ players, this does mean that far too many talented and promising welsh players won't get regular games, especially with so many foreigners (who I am in favour of, as they do generally strengthen our club teams). I think the only long term answer is the SH approach of central contracts, with players placed in clubs to create balanced sides and prevent the Cardiff situation of stock piling but not properly developing our best playersbut I'm dubious whether that'' ever come about.
