【 本 報 綜 合 報 道 】 Google 今 次 並 非 首 次 因 收 集 電 腦 用 戶 資 料 而 引 起 爭 議 。 該 公 司 兩 年 前 推 出 容 量 超 過 兩 GB 的 免 費 電 子 郵 箱 Gmail ， 但 由 於 Gmail 可 以 自 動 查 閱 客 戶 的 電 郵 內 容 作 廣 告 用 途 ， 以 及 永 久 貯 存 用 戶 電 郵 內 容 （ 包 括 已 刪 除 郵 件 甚 至 取 消 帳 戶 者 ） ， 因 而 受 到 私 隱 關 注 組 織 廣 泛 抨 擊 。

Google 強 調 ， Gmail 翻 閱 郵 件 的 工 作 自 動 化 進 行 ， 全 程 不 會 有 人 看 到 用 戶 郵 件 的 內 容 ， 用 戶 私 隱 不 受 影 響 ， 不 過 有 團 體 形 容 這 個 過 程 與 竊 聽 電 話 談 話 和 郵 局 私 自 拆 開 他 人 的 信 件 無 異 ， 英 國 甚 至 有 團 體 為 此 向 當 局 提 出 申 訴 。

Gmail 目 前 是 容 量 最 大 的 免 費 電 子 郵 箱 之 一 ， 但 據 估 計 Google 為 客 戶 提 供 一 GB 訊 息 容 量 的 成 本 每 年 僅 為 十 美 元 （ 約 七 十 八 港 元 ） ， 有 團 體 批 評 這 筆 款 項 與 Google 的 廣 告 收 益 相 比 只 是 九 牛 一 毛 ， 呼 籲 公 眾 不 要 為 此 放 棄 個 人 私 隱 。
