Subject: Death of a wolf

*Brown eyes, deep globes of wisdom
Pierce the darkness of the forest, dark
Bristling fur, silver as the moon
Sprinkled with a fine dusting of powder, white.

Padding softly, silently as the passing of an owl
Wind sighing, the gentle rustling of a pine bough
The femme moves foward, the smell of musk heavy
Her ears alert, listening, waiting.

She raises her cold wet nose
Sniffing for what is or is not there,
Shaking, she scatters flakes of snow nestled in her coat
Revealing in the cold, crisp, spring air.

Watching, ever watching the passage of time
Soul yearning for her kind, those who will be left behind.
She lifts her head, puffs of frost form her breath
Howling, pain, hate, rage, at the man-caused death.*
