Irritated by his own spontaneous call which he now realized was inappropriate, considering he had just revealed his location to an unknown wolf in an unknown territory. And judging the uncanny howl he had heard just moments before sent shivers down his spine as he envisioned the size of the wolves that occupied this forest.

Nevertheless he had some weight behind him, and there was still some distance between the oncoming wolf and himself which gave him the option of either retreating, or if the need should arise, the ability to preemptively attack.

He readied himself - claws eager and scraping at the soft earth; tail raised, head lowered. The sound of his frantic heart drowning out as the crash of paws through the undergrowth drew closer.
