Material development – Health

The objective is to get students to discuss about ancient and modern health methods and myths.

1) Warm-up = the students will tell the class what they think “health” means and then look up the its meaning in the dictionary and tell if they got the meaning right or how close they got.

2) Divide the class into two groups. One group would do a research about health treatments used by the older people and the other group about treatment used now a days. They can ask their grandparents, teachers, pharmacists, doctors, etc, and also visit the sites listed below:

http://www.uis.edu/~lfisher/archsyll.htm
http://www.menshealth.com/cda/home/0,6922,s1-0-0-0-0,00.html

3) Each group would find support for their findings and try to convince the other group that their health method is better because of the fact they would relate, whether they or someone else they know have experienced it.
4) They would find out about myths about food, for example, does chocolate really give pimples? Are eggs really bad for your health? Is it true that mixing milk and mango is bad for you? Are your parents conservative or liberal about health care?
