Diagnostic the learning implies in applies tests to do a feedback and indicate a degree of secrecy in order to assure confidentially. Otherwise, just tests is not enough. It is necessary provide opportunities for the students to do a self-assessment in during the course. The assessments is a good way to promote an interactive process that engages both teacher and student in monitoring the student’s performance.
Use assessment is help the learners to be more efficient and more able to find flexible ways. Portfolio assessment is a way to show the student’s progress as turn them independent thinkers. The main aim to use portfolios is development the learners’ autonomy.
According Baker Portfolio is an “alternative forms of measuring the process inherent in actual classroom learning and teaching”, so the as teachers as students can detect where are the fails and can change strategies of teaching and learning respectively. Adams and Hamm state that “Portfolios can be used as a tool in the classroom to bring students together, to discuss ideas, and provide evidence of understanding and the way to apply it. Through critical analysis of their work - and of their peers – students gain insight into other ways of looking at a problem”.
When foreign languages’ teacher uses Portfolios assessment they are involving language students in selecting and reflecting on their learning. Is necessary adapt the strategies for specifics necessities of language learning. For example, use audiotapes and videotapes for oral assessment.
