HOW CAN WE USE PORTFOLIOS TO EVALUATE OUR STUDENTS' PROGRESS?

Portfolio is usually used as an alternative tool of assessing the student's progress. It is much more than a simple folder of student work. It is an important way of evaluation because it reflects the student�s work, efforts, energy and progress. It empowers the student to take responsibility of his own work, besides their autonomy as learners is facilitated. The use of this resource develops the writing skill and involves students in decisions about which pieces of their work to assess and to assure that feedback is provided. Portfolios work as an alternative of testing students in an attempt to enable students to address their learning in terms of process rather than products.
