In the middle point from the last territory and this the force propelling him had at last stopped, but he had realized that he must continue until he was done. The tears and fear had been swallowed, and now Arvad stands confidentally; the mist appears to shy away from him, and he seems to be unaffected by the heat. Under his hooves plants twist, turn, and sigh as they are given another chance to live; others die instantly. The colt himself notices none of this, his eyes already set upon the nearest horse.
