The trip itself was unevntful, but now you're faced with a dillemour. The ocean itself. The day is crystal clear, and if you look hard you can see the outline of land across the sea, but it's far to far to swim at high tide. There are two options that become immediately apparent. You can wait for low tide, and swim through the shallower waters, or you can walk along the banks and find a fishing town to borrow a boat from.
