Note that he was registered as Joseph C. Appleby and not Charles Joseph Appleby.

Also find the Births registration of your Grandparents as:
Joseph C. Appleby Birth 1895. Reference M-J-101-0-0237 Middlesbrough.
Maria J. Lewis Birth 1896. Reference M-J-109-0-0039 Middlesbrough.

My Appleby Family come from Thornaby-on-Tees which is the next town to Middlesbrough.
