JAMES HIND APPLEBY born 1831 on the 1841 census he's by himself at a Thornley Hall on the durham archives census has him down as born Upnor kent?
His mother was Mary Ditchburn BORN 1808
Father James Richardson Appleby born 1808 but cant find any birth for him Just a marriage on the IGI married 1827
Wonder if there's any connection perhaps
