Subject: Appleby's from Ireland

My gr-gr grandfather was Edward Appleby born around 1844, in Ireland. I do not have a local, except that the 1881 British Census shows his place of birth as K N Ireland. At the time of the 1881 census he was living at Sneyd, Walsall Foreign, Staffordshire England. He was a coal miner and his wife Emma (?) born approx 1843. They also list 5 children Hanna Elizabith 1866, William 1869, Sarah 1874, and Hack 1876. I am looking for Irish roots, or if a kind person could enlighten me as to the meaning of K N preceding Ireland. Thankyou
