My Great Grandmother Harriet Amelia Appleby was born in Yeovil circa 1839. She moved to London in the 1860's and married John Potts in Hackney in the 4th Quarter of 1863. Remembered anecdotal evidence asserts that, like so many people from Yeovil of that vintage, her parents were involved in the local gloving industry, possibly to the extent that they were proprietors or managers of one of the local firms. My searches of local censuses back to 1841 do not reveal the presence of any individuals matching these criteria in the 1841 or 1851 census. There are a couple of families bearing the surname Applebee who might be possible candidates in settlements north of Yeovil. By comparison, Mudford is much closer to Yeovil. Kathleen Dryden's posting concerning Sarah Appleby, born in Yeovil in 1754 might provide a clue. If Sarah had any brother's, one of them could well be a grandparent of Harriet Amelia. Any information relating to this speculation would be most welcome.
