Sorry I do not have any personal info re: your family, but I would recommend the books by Paul Bunnell (or contact him personally) for info re: UELs. Would you have found any reference to an Eliza Appleby (or Appleton) who married a David McDonald and gave birth to a son William in Calais, Maine in c1842? Hope this gets to you.
