I know that Sri Lanka is a small country in the world stage. However Miss Sri Lanka seems to have got it all!!!... Beauty, brains, social service and ambition to achieve not only for her but also to represent others of her country. Being a special education English teacher she seems to give her time and energy to causes that empower under represented groups in Sri Lanka, such as children and women. I personally think that takes a lot of perseverance and compassion on her part to do so. If she is crowned as Miss Universe, she will be a great representative for she has the building blocks to be one of the world's greatest people!!!

OMG! After the presentation show, KURARA IS STILL MY TOP CHOICE FOR THE CROWN!!! She is incredible on the runway! And her dress in dazzling! Beautiful! Go watch her swimsuit video on the Miss Universe site! Kurara is my top choice. I just fear that her lack of smiles can make her lose the crown. Miyako lost the crown mostly because of her lack of smiling and her "lost-in-translation" translator. But yeah! GO KURARA!!

Anabella stars as wonder woman on the big screen!!!

Could anyone who grew up in the '70s ever forget the social and cultural phenomenon Wonder Woman, portrayed by Former Miss USA Lynda Carter? Back then, Warner Bros. decided to bring the DC Comics super heroine to the small screen in the hopes of establishing a competitive show with the Universal television series the Bionic Woman.

Anyone familiar with the show would be immediately struck by Anabella Hilal’s (current candidate in Miss Lebanon 2005) resemblance to the American comic heroine!!

After the recent release of all the show’s episodes on DVD, it looks like Hollywood is getting ready to greenlight a big-screen version of Wonder Woman. The current front runner of the role is Sandra Bullock, partly due to her relationship to Warner Bros., where she has spent much of her career. Even Jennifer Lopez has expressed her interest in the role, during an interview on MTV.

Rumour has it though that WB are in the direction of casting fresh faces (like they did back in the days with Christopher Reeve as Superman), allowing an actress to come in the role without “baggage”.

Any idea where this is heading?? Yes you guessed right. Anabella was recently noticed by WB, through their representative in Beirut, and was called for a casting …

With a semifinal of 20, I still think 51 of these delegates in any given year would earn a Top 15 spot in their own right.

This is a very competitive group.

So, after viewing the presentation photos, I'm choosing the following as the most likely to be in a semifinal 20: Switzerland, Trinidad & Tobago, Australia, Colombia, Mexico, New Zealand, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Denmark, Ukraine, Israel, Puerto Rico, USA, Serbia & Montenegro, Germany, Russia, Croatia, Canada and Venezuela.

Other possibilities are: Jamaica, France, Belgium, Poland, Georgia, India, El Salvador, Indonesia, Argentina, South Africa, St. Lucia, Phillipines, Bolivia, Peru, Kazakstan, Cayman Islands, China, Japan, Chile and Peru.

For the first time in Miss Universe, a record of 86 beautiful delegates are competing for the mikimoto crown.

The Miss Universe Organization decided to change its format again. In 2006 there will be 20 semi-finalists, 5 from each region: Americas, Africa, Europe and Asia/Australia.

After the top 20 semi-finalists parade in swimsuits, only 10 candidates will go on to compete in the evening gown competition. They will then become 5, and ultimately, the winner.

Este Miss Universo como se ha dado en reiteradas ocasiones esta caracterizado porque las mejores misses estén en el continente Americano y para ser mas especifico en América Latina, para nadie es un secreto que la delegación latina es la más fuerte aunque claro está que la corona todavía no se la dejo a nadie (pero si ha de ser latina creo que será para MEXICO). En relación al TOP 20 considero que es sumamente difícil hacerlo cuando hay tanta latina buena pero hay que recordar que no sólo de latinas está hecho el grupo de semifinalistas, existen las europeas, africanas, y todas aquellas misses de Asia y el Pacifico Sur que si bien especulo no son competencia este año para ninguna latina hay que tomarlas en cuenta también.

The Miss Universe Organization holds great integrity due to their strong leadership and interest in the advancement of young women around the world. The young ladies that compete in this system work hard and endure many hard ships to fulfill their goals and accomplishments. Many young women trust and believe in this system, yet it is unfortunate that many entities that run pageants within this same system damage its integrity such as the Miss Florida USA organization.

A recent article came out in one of the Florida news papers (Panama City), mentioning that Cristen Duren, Miss Florida USA 2006, has not been reimbursed for her travels and has not been issued her prizes. Ms. Duren just placed a lawsuit against the Gravitts after completing a full year of her reign. How many past queens faced the same situations yet have felt they had no other choice but to hold back their claims?

Recently at the 2007 coronation a young lady by the name of Jena Edwards was crowned Miss Florida USA when 5 out of the 6 judges agreed that their choice for the crown was Yazmin Navarro the 1st runner up. It was sad to see that even as Miss Edwards was being crowned the crowd was still cheering for Miss Navarro. It was even more disappointing to see that at the coronation cocktail the attention was focused on the 1st runner up and the one wearing the crown was completely ignored. What happened there? Was it that the 1st runner ups last name is Navarro? Was it convenient for the Florida organization for Edwards to win due to her charitable organization? Is it required now to have National experience? Could they have simply switched the names around? Basically the Gravitts have been running a scam and benefiting their pocket's courtesy of the hopes and dreams of young ladies in the state of Florida. They are a racist organization that adapts final scores to their benefit and it is made visible on live television year after year.

What is even more disappointing is that Yazmin Navarro could have taken Florida to their first National title and even all the way to Miss Universe. This young lady has what it takes to compete against all the Latin American Goddesses and win. Now we know why Florida never wins at Miss USA.

Having said all this, I would like to request that the Miss Universe Organization get involved in the Miss Florida USA system and conduct a thorough investigation of their records.
I truly hope that the Ms. Paula Shubert, President of the Miss Universe Organization and Mr. Donald Trump, Chairman and President of the Trump Organization really pay close attention and take action in what is going on in the Florida System. What the Gravitts continue to do not only affects the young ladies that compete in the Florida, it affects the reputation of the Miss Universe Organization as well.

I wanna give a little correction about Indonesia's Delegate, Nadine Chandrawinata. This site said that Nadine was born with her twin sister. Actually, it's incorrect.
The fact is that Nadine has no twin sister. She was born as the first child in her family. But, she has 2 younger brothers. Her younger brothers are the twin ones. Her younger twin brothers, namely, Marcel and Mischa Chandrawinata are also models and actors in Indonesia. The older, Marcel, has starred in two movies in Indonesia (Alexandria and Catatan Akhir Sekolah <Graduation Clips>). While his younger, Mischa starred in a movie Apa Artinya Cinta (The Meaning Of Love)
That's all a little correction from me. Lastly, I hope a great luck for Nadine there!!!!

Two kingdom queen fanatics are arguing in an internet forum regarding monarchs & royalties on who is the most famous/popular and most hyped kingdom queen in Europe. The die-hard fan of the British Queen insists that Queen Elizabeth is the most famous/popular. The other, a fanatic of Queen of Spain also insists that it's not Queen Elizabeth but Queen Sofia of Spain.

To REITERATE to these two fanatics, truly, there are many monarchs or royalties in the world--Queen of Thailand, of Spain, of Netherlands, of Denmark, etc. But the most visible & heavily hyped (excessively publicized) queen internationally is the Queen of England/Britain. Among the queens, the British royalty seem to get the most of media exposures. These two fanatics and people must realize that monarchs/royalties or kingdom queens/kings (same with their counterparts, the national politicians and also showbiz people such as actors/actresses & singers) are NOT GLOBAL PERSONS, they only become int'l personalities or figures (or become known internationally because of their heavy hypes/media exposures worldwide).

But IT DOES NOT MATTER because THEIR TITLES, POSITIONS & FUNCTIONS (as kingdom queens/kings or national presidents/prime ministers or heads of states) ARE NOT OF THE WORLD AND NOT FOR THE ENTIRE/WHOLE WORLD but for their particular or respective nations or kingdoms/countries-colonies only.

Int'l/world beauty queens (married and unmarried), such as the 2005 MISS UNIVERSE NATALIE GLEBOVA, are GLOBALLY PROCLAIMED, CROWNED AND TITLED QUEENS and they are NOT in the same level in GLOBAL SOCIAL STANDING with any monarch/royalty (kingdom queen or king) in the world beause A GLOBAL BEAUTY QUEEN'S TITLE, POSITION & FUNCTION (such as the MISS EARTH, MISS INTERNATIONAL, MISS MAJA MUNDIAL, MRS. WORLD) COVERS THE WHOLE WORLD AND UNIVERSAL IN SCOPE! A king or queen does NOT. Monarchs are kingdom queens or kings whose rule & reign are LIMITED to their kingdoms or colonies-countries ONLY. In the GLOBAL SCENE, outside their kingdoms, THEY ARE POWERLESS. Same with their counterparts, the NATIONAL POLITICIANS (prime ministers, presidents, heads of states) who have NO political power and NO jurisdiction outside their respective countries/states.

But IT DOES NOT MATTER because THEIR TITLES, POSITIONS & FUNCTIONS (as kingdom queens/kings or nat’l presidents/prime ministers/heads of states) ARE NOT OF THE WORLD AND NOT FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD but for their particular or respective nations or kingdoms/countries-colonies only.

We observe that OUR WORLD BEAUTY QUEENS (who are REAL GLOBAL PERSONS & WORLD CELEBRITIES) get global exposures on the frontpage of national papers only during their election and coronation when throughout their global reign they have many important int'l activities of global significance that deserve global media coverages. World beauty contests/pageants (organizations) must also have good and well-organized media centers and press offices so that OUR GLOBAL QUEENS (like national politicians, kingdom queens, and showbiz people) would also be well-exposed worldwide through the online and int'l press/media such as Reuters, UPI (United Press Int'l), AFP (Agence France Presse), AP (Associated Press), CNN, BBC, etc.

For all of you that are hoping that Miss Indonesia or Miss Philippines.....neither are Miss Universe material.

Miss Puerto Rico is NOT Miss Universe material.

My unbiased opinion is that what I've read on this website is that people are trying to convince everyone that these three are the best qualified to win the title of Miss Universe. Of the 3 that have been over hyped here Miss Puerto Rico is the most beautiful, however plastic she may look.

I think it will be between Miss Mexico, Miss Canada, Miss Brazil, Miss St Lucia, and Miss Columbia.

I also like Miss Switzerland, Miss Thailand, Miss Nicaragua, Miss Aruba, Miss Cayman Islands, Miss Bolivia, Miss Venezuela, Miss India, and Miss Ecuador.

But, ya know it will all determine on them--but I'll will say the 3 girls that keep getting all the comments on this website don't stand a chance.

Miaa Ruba could do better if she loosens up a little bit - She poses like she is afraid and she should do smething with her hair such as give it a nice blow out instead of using that curling iron!!! She just does not look great with that hair looking like she rolled out of bed! For the rest she has potential. She just has to be more confident! I like her but I don't think that she is going to make it in the top 15. For her interview for preleminaries it looks like she won't do well. Look at the video! Though deep down inside I just wish that she would make it in the top 15....

I have gone through most of the interviews..In my opinion with due respect to others , I was facinated with the interview of Miss Sri Lanka...Its forthright, off the cuff, with a deep
sence of feelings she speaks out. I dont know if any Miss Sri Lanka's has made an impact like this before..but I feel this year we might see some diffrence from the usual ring of girls
who get selected from known or likely countries, to someone
never heard before..! I dont know just my idea.

What a delightful choice of an evening gown from our competitor Jackelinne Piccinini Otten, Miss Guatemala 2006, the color is simply amazing, it blends perfect with her physic, the revealing neck line remains me of the famous dress that Jennifer Lopez wore to the Oscars a few years ago. She might not be one of the favorites to win the crown, but her choice of gown surely puts her up there with the winners!!
Last year Aida Estrada, Miss Guatemala 2005 had one of the most beautiful evening gowns of the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand; can Jacky do the same thing? we’ll see what the critics have to say.

I tried my best to translate her interview. I apologize ahead of time for any errors. I really like her and I found her interview; like Miss India's and Miss Philippine’s, candid, un-rehearsed, and genuinely honest. Wow, she is gorgeous and has such radiant smile. Please do not underestimate her.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Jictzad: *Laughs* What do I like to do in my spare time? *Laughs* I don't have any spare time! Well, the little time that I do have; due to fulfilling my duties as Miss Venezuela and the many things that I have to do, I like to read for a while, meditate, pray, try to sleep. But honestly I barely have any spare time.*Laughs*

Where do you see yourself doing 10 years from now?

Jictzad: Lets see...I see myself married, with two kids, and a few wrinkles. *Laughs* I see my business being successful. I plan on launching a business so that my family, my mother, my brothers, my future children can be established. And happy. An accomplished woman.

Who is your idol?

Jictzad: The person that I admire is Eleanor Robert. I admire her because even though she was married with children and was very ill, she endlessly fought for human rights. Regardless if you were black or white she wanted everyone to be united so they can fight for their country, for their people. To me that's incredible, a woman that has done great things. She has a good heart.

Your friends say you are....

Jictzad: My circle of friends is very small because ever since I was 14 I left home to work and compete in sports. I didn't have a lot of time to make friends to go out and go to parties and things like that. However, [my professors and the people that guide me] the people that I constantly have around me now tell me that I'm tranquil, that I'm very mature for my age and that I'm goal-oriented. I'm a hard worker so I can achieve great things in life.

What do you want others to know about your country?

Jictzad: There are a lot of problems known about my country around the world due to politics. I would like for people to set that aside: the politics, our president, our opposition; to see who we are as a people. To see what is in our hearts. We are hard-working people, we want to strive forward, and we all want opportunities. Unfortunately not knowing what direction the country is going, not being able to choose over shadow’s us Venezuelans. And it is hard to carry that around. But I would like people to know that we are (Venezuela is) a beautiful country; filled with hardworking people, loving people. We are willing to do whatever it takes to strive forward in life, to be who we wan to be, and we look forward to a better future.

despues de regresar del Miss Mundo Caribe en Tortola ,Miss Afrocolombia Señorita Ximena Flores Petty esta en la Paradisiaca isla de St Vincent y las Grenadinas representando Colombia en el Miss Carival 2006 a celebrarse el proximo viernes 7 de julio.

Ximena se perfila como una de las mas fuertes aspirantes al reinado donde estara compitiendo con otras 15 reinas de la region Caribeña . luego regresara a Bogota y pasara unos dias en Buenaventura para repotenciarse y viajar a representar a Colombia en el Miss Ecstasy Internacional en la tropical isla de Anguilla

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?
Since I am an anchor for the morning news program, during weekdays I read newspapers and monitor news programs as well as do regular exercises for my health. In my free time, I usually enjoy playing with my dog, whose name is Choco, riding my bicycle by the Han River, watching movies, reading books, doing yoga, and other things. I especially like to go traveling as I am very eager to learn about different cultures.

Name one person other than your parents who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
It is not easy to name only one person. I believe that I have been influenced by many people and try to learn the strong points of successful people. Recently, my personal role model is Alison Lapper, a British artist with shortened legs. Even though she has a disability, she has the talent to make herself and others happy even in a bad situation. I firmly believe that her talent is the best one given by God.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
In college, I majored in both English Literature and Mass Communication since my goal was to be an anchor. I always give all my thanks to God, and luck always follows me when I do my best. I will put my best efforts to be the best anchor woman in Korea.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born in Taegu, Korea, and grew up in Seoul. Because of my father's business, I often had to move during my school days. At that time, I did not want to move to other places as I had to be apart from my friends. However, now I think that it was a good chance to enhance my ability to adjust to any different environment. As I am an active person and have leadership skills, I was the class president as well as the vice president of my school. Also, I earned an award in the school music contest. I was a member of photography club during my college year. I had a photography exhibition and it was an awesome experience. So when I get older, I want to open a photo exhibition again to share my feelings with people. There were big and small events in my life. However, I have learned that with wisdom and perseverance, good thing always come after. Through that lesson, I desire to fulfill my life with much love and blessing.

What makes you unique and different from the other contestants?
It is that I'm the main anchor of the "Morning Wide" news of SBS (the major broadcasting station of Korea), and I have so much passion as an anchor and a Korean beauty representative.
