Dear Maarten

Heve you checked in the multivolume "Feldzuege des prinzen Eugen" - if not I could check sometie in the STates archive (Vienna)
Who rated it as strategic victory - discussed many times on other forums a strategic victory often means a tactical loss, like a typical rearguard battle - so with the term strategic one has to be carefull.

Just an example from the Napwars
1805 at Hollabrunn Schöngrabern
Prince Bagration fights a rearguard action against 3 french corps loosing half of his 10.000 men tactical a losss- strategic a victory as Khutusov with the mainarmy and package trains came away unharmed.

as for 1702 and Eugens actions in generall, his attacks were often too costly leading to a situation that was not advanteguous for furthercampaign, eg after Zenta he was made resposible for abuse of "aerarische Mittel" (money and man) - of course turned downd by the king himself later, curious or not?

YOurs

Michael
