Hey Damacio: Remember me? I think you lived on Rockaway Parkway. I went to PS 242, then to Brooklyn Tech and CCNY. I married a girl from PS 242 - Irena Bulis who was one grade behind us. Still married and in love. We moved to Rochester NY in '64. Hope all is well with you. Irena and I still miss the weeds, dumps, Jamacia Bay and all the things that Canarsie used to be. Regards to you. Tom Mahalek >This website is a real shocker. Can't believe this.

I was in Canarsie those years and more. Went to 115 and lived on Canarsie Road Near Ave N. Went to Tilden Grad in 58. I remember the dump and the metal watch bands, the tree houses, The Gangling Brothers Circus at Ave M & 89th street right next to a big swamp, they had ponies, peacocks and other animals. Used ti ice skate on the swamp...someone did fall in and lose their life there in the early 40"s. Canarsie Pier was great fishing. Caught a lot of silver snapper there as a kid. My Great Grandparents were fishermen and clammers in Canarsie in the Jamaica Bay for many years. They lived right near the cemetary on 87th or 88th street. Canarsie was a great place. Still is, but not the same. Recently visited this year, and many of my old neighbors still live in the same houses. unbelieveable. Loved it and have many great memories of Canarsie in the old days.
