Canarsie in the mid to late 80's was the time to be there. Stickball in the 115 courtyard, weekend football at Seaview Park, working at the PAC (im sure every must have put some time in). Im 10 years removed from our beloved Canarsie, but every time I'm back to visit, how sad has it become?!?

Hey hey to the Bayview crew from the late 70's and 80's. CHS class of 81 and 82. This is rich from 2115.
I loved those days-smoking,drinking, listening to music and hanging with the girls.
I remember the rumble in 76 with the boys from Georgetown in the park........no one showed up so me, lenny,mark and steve made up this big story.... I even tore my shirt to make it look good....dam What bullshitters we were back then...little punks...we made it sound like it was the fight of the year....some of the older boys started looking for this "georgetown crew" to settle scores about my torn shirt...lol....
I remember my first date and I stole some candy from Star Value to give to her......Back then I loved to steal from Star and dial drugs...... I used to sell some of the goods to Ira (rollerskates)who never seemed to have the money on him......but always seemed to have bud.....
anyway great times......
I left Bayview in 1985 but hung out thwere until 89...My aunt is still there
I found this site today...I was helping my sobn with a school project about where his parents grew up.... I didn't know Bayview had a site.

I'd like to get some serious opinions & feedback here in regards to what YOU personally believe the reasons were that Canarsie changed so quickly, and what were the causes.
My personal opinion is as follows:
The presence of the Breuklyn Projects was a huge monkey wrench that the city of NY placed in Canarsie in the 1960's. This then led to everyone north of Ave J, between Rkwy Pkwy & East 108th Street running for their lives when the real estate offices like Fillmore & Price illegally blockbusted the neighborhood, telling everyone via phone calls that the "blacks" were moving in, to hurry up and sell before it's too late. I was there. I got the phone calls.
I blame the real estate greedy bastards for what happened to Canarsie, who used fear & manipulation to force people to sell.

I decieded to check out this website. Its interesting to see so many old names and friends that I have not spoken to in years. I just wanted to say that bleacher reunion or not. The bleachers and my friends there where some of the best times of my life. I have great memories and alot of laughs on those bleachers. I still drive past those bleachers and think man if that park could talk we would all be in trouble. Hello. Does anyone remember the Neckonoff Family from Flatlands 1 Street and later East 83 between Glenwood and Farragut. My dad is Barry. My mom is Beverly (she was very active on the PTA's of PS 279, JHS211 and Canarsie HS), My brother is Jeff, my sister is Jodi, and I am Michelle. We were members of Seaview Pool as well. Jodi and I were also members of Emile Zola BBYO which met at the HES. I am posting this because I just spoke with my mom this morning and she is feeling nostalgic about people that we grew up with and is wondering where they are now. Anyone interested in attending a double Canarsie HS/South Shore HS reunion?
The idea is to make it a jumbo reunion for the ultra good-looking and cool classes of 1982 - 1986, as we all have extremely busy lives. Plus, our neighborhood didn't promote the best school spirit, so this way we can guarantee at least 200 - 300 people attending.
Tables can be set up according to HS & graduating year.

If the response rate is decent, I'll seriously start planning this for either January, 2005, or July, 2005.
It all depends on the feedback I get. This way, some of you have some time to lose 20 pounds, work out, get lipo and hair transplants:-)
We can have it somewhere nice, either in NYC (either a hotel ballroom like the Hilton, Marriott or Sheraton, or a cool lounge-type place like Metronome).

Hi, I grew up in Starret City in the 1980's and someone sent me this....it's hilarious so I thought I'd pass it on.
Subject: Spoiled Little Brats!!!
When I was a kid adults used to bore me to tears with
their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning uphill both ways through year 'round blizzards carrying their
younger siblings on their backs to their one-room schoolhouse where they maintained a straight-A average despite their full-time after-school job at the local textile mill where they worked for 35 cents an hour just to help keep their family from starving to death!
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!
But....
Now that I've reached the ripe old age of
thirty-five, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy!
I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a goddamned Utopia!
And I hate to say it but you kids today don't know how good
you've got it! I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet --if we wanted to know something, we had to go to the library and look it up ourselves!
And there was no email! We had to actually write somebody a letter with a pen!-- and then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the damn mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!
And there were no MP3s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to go to the record store and shoplift it yourself!
Or we had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and screw it all up!
You want to hear about hardship?
We didn't have fancy stuff like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called you they got a busy signal!
And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When
the phone rang, you had no idea who it was, it could be your boss, your mom, a collections agent, your drug dealer, you didn't know!!! You just had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!
And we didn't have any fancy Sony Play station
videogames with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600!
With games like "Space Invaders" and "Asteroids" and the graphics sucked! Your guy was a little square! You had to use your imagination!
And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win, the game just kept getting harder and faster until you died!
Just like LIFE!
When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! A tall guy sat in front of you, you were screwed!
And sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 20 channels and there was no onscreen menu! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!
And there was no Cartoon Network! You could only get
cartoons on Saturday morning... ...D'ya hear what I'm saying!?!
We had to wait ALL WEEK, you spoiled little brats!
That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today
have got it too easy. You're spoiled, I swear to God! You guys wouldn't last five minutes back in the 80's!!

Where can we find Mick Devitt and Danny Schuler? These were two Lamour hotties. They went and got famous, and now no one can touch them. We remember you practically had to pay to talk to them back in the old daze. But they were hot!!!

Well the format of these new boards is a bit harsh on the eyes.
But enough of that.
I would love to hear from old friends and acquaintances that knew me or my family. My brother is Jeff, my sister is Jodi and my parents are Beverly and Barry.
We lived on Flatlands 1 from the early 60's to the mid 80's
We then moved to East 83 between Glenwood and Farragut from 1985 -1998. My parents left Canarsie after being there for over 30 years.
I graduated CHS in 1985, Jeff graduated CHS in 1983 and Jodi graduated from SSHS in 1988. Jodi and I were members of BBYO, Emile Zola Chapter and we would love to hear from former members.
We have some wonderful memories of Canarsie and all the great times we had there with the great people that we grew up with.

Rocky (Ronald) Goldstein, formerly of Flatlands 2nd Street, passed away in the pre-dawn hours of 3/28/01, from a heart condition he never knew he had.
He was 37 years old, and is survived by a wife, two very little children, 2 sisters, and his parents.
He shall be missed!
