I'm starting to think this line may have as many meanings as viewers. Whether that means that it's a brilliant, resonant line, or whether it means that, like some bad poetry, it merely refers to half-forgotten cliches which all of us can understand, I don't know. But certainly all the responses in this sub-thread have been very interesting.
