Spike's punk persona is unavoidably linked to Nihilism, that being the philosophical position of choice for the punk 'movement' with anarchy as an adjunct, a sort of 'evangelical' nihilism I suppose. But despite the nihilist links with Nietzsche I don't see Spike as a nihilist; rather, as you point out, Spike is engaged with, and by, the world and the idea of ending the world is foreign to him as we see in S2. He is in fact directly opposed to the standpoint of a Nihilist as partially described by Walter Kaufmann as

...a man who judges of the world as it is that it ought not to be...

Spike describes himself at one stage as "not a great thinker" and probably adopted the punk image because he wanted to be recognisably a rebel ("I'm a rebel, you're an idiot.") rather than as any grand statement. Perversely I could believe that Angelus was a twisted Nietzschean in a 'God is dead and I killed Him' kind of way. It's all rather ironic really - Spike as a sort of humanist vampire posing as a punk but in reality constantly seeking approval wheras Angelus is the true Anarchistic Nihilist.
