So in your view are the Scooby members of the rebellion mentally ill during the rebellion? They have more than spike's foundation for rational trust in buffy.

If you say, "yes they are," I have no quarrel with that answer.

Spike shows a faith in Buffy that is a result of a choice on his part when despair was probably easier. The Rebellion avoids that dilemma by lying to themselves and taking action against a target that is concerned for their best interests, not their annihilation. Maybe Spike is different from them because he lacks fear.
