Subject: AtPO 2009 Gathering - Washington DC - Hotel Finalists

I have done some major research on the upcoming gathering and have secured several bids for Hosting our ATPO 2009 Gathering. Dates from Thurs Jun 25 –Monday June 29. Please take a look at the following hotel options, and provide any comments you may have. My goal is to announce a selection by Monday. I have visited several of these properties and can give comments.

Outside the Beltway

Chase Suites Hotel, Rockville MD
Compares to Vancouver 2008, Tahoe 2006 (Minus being somewhere cool)
Rates: $89 Guest Room, $200 Meeting Room
Pros: All rooms are suites, very nice, and have kitchens and fold-out sofas beds. Meeting room has a full kitchen area, sitting room, and boardroom. Very home-y. Free Parking
Cons: Far out on the end of rail line, there is nothing within walking distance. Although they have a free shuttle bus. All rooms have exterior exits. No adjoining rooms/interior halls. 50 minutes to downtown.

Hilton, Rockville MD.
Compares to NYC 2005.
Rates: $99 guest rooms, $250 Meeting room
Pro: Across the street from Twinbrook Metro Station. Some restaurants in walking distance. Meeting room features theater seating
Cons: Hotel limits outside food in conference room. Neighborhood is very ‘suburban strip mall’. 35 mins to downtown.

Inside the Beltway

Residence Inn, Bethesda MD
Compares to Toronto 2007
Rates: $109 King + Sofabed, $129 Two Queen, $250 meeting room
Pros: Two blocks to Metro Station, 20 minutes to downtown. Bethesda is a trendy neighborhood with many bars & restaurants. Rooms have full kitchens. Hotel is very nice.
Cons: Rooms are large enough for a small group, but not large enough to serve as gathering points. Expensive to park on weekdays.

Hampton Inn, Silver Spring, MD
Compares to Toronto 2007
Rates: $99 guest rooms, $200 Meeting Room. (Meeting room price reduces based upon # of hotel rooms booked)
Pros: Four blocks to metro station, 20 minutes to downtown. Neighborhood has many shops and restaurants within walking distance, including AFI Theatre. Convenient to NYC Bus Lines & Union Station.
Cons: Some suites with kitchens are available in the “Homewood Suites” part of the hotel at a higher rate, although these are not very roomy for gatherings. Parking is limited. Streets are very, very busy.

In the City

Doubletree Washington, Scott Circle
Rates: $159 on Thursday, $129 Friday through Sunday Night. Large Suite for Group - $350
Pros: Downtown. Within walking distance of Dupont Circle & Adams Morgan neighborhoods.
Cons: Pricey. Driving & parking difficult.
