Maybe since we're about to start considering BtVS comics as canon, it's not inappropriate to mention one that's apparently set in season 2 or 3: Uninvited Guests has a very similar scenario, with Buffy working at a mall ice-cream stand, wearing a stupid hat, etc., because being the Slayer means she'll never be able to have a "real" job. Monster is raised by shop owner.
