As far as I know, Darla did have a soul when she was resurrected hence the guilties when she got in 'Darla'. I'm not sure if it is her original soul or not but it seems that the soul is more to do with the conscience rather than consciousness so it seems possible that a brand new soul was created.

As for where her original soul was (or is), I assumed it was in the ether where all the other souls go after a human is vamped.
