Just watched eps 1 and 2 of this new BBC offering. Here's what I've got so far.

An anagram of 'Doctor Who' this is a spin-off based on bits and pieces from series 1 and 2 of the new stuff. It is definitely intended for adults (10pm showing on BBC3, F word, 'adult'(ish) scenes and themes).

There's precious little humour in it and humour goes a long way in my appreciation of a program but I think this one has 'the legs' as we would say. I hope so anyway. It relies a little bit too heavily on certain shots of Cardiff but since it's set there that's excusable. There are some serious holes (that's a joke but I won't spoil it) but all in all it could turn into something memorable.

Negatives: The scripts are a bit flat and the delivery occasionaly passionless, some of the visual motifs are i) overdone and ii) too obvious eg the advertising in ep 2 which is what it is after all. The characterisation of the main characters is uneven as yet but since there is a group to cover perhaps time will tell. Maybe wanting to know more about the group as a whole is a good thing (it is if I get what I want later on).

Positives: IMO clearly influenced by Joss and in particular Buffy in some of the approach, a challenging stance and an inclination to make comment (although sadly not the patience to let this seep into the consciousness of the viewer but rather a desire to pound it in with a lump hammer). Some nice effects from time to time and an ability not to explain plot elements which might escaped the casual viewer twice.

I think it might be a good new prog but I'm wondering if it'll make it to the US; and if it does what on earth you lot will make of all the Welsh accents!
