Another possibility: The Black Rock was not a slave ship but a prison ship, used for "transportation" of convicts from Great Britain to Australia. That might make the timing more plausible for having dynamite on the ship, & the route would make more sense for the ship's ending up on the island (although not so far inland!). I don't know if prisoners were chained on those ships, or if any of the chained bodies shown were children, which would imply the people were slaves rather than convicts.

So what's your scenario, Darby? And which Star Trek episode is that? (I don't know the titles of most eps.)

And my possible answer to 1 of the loose ends: "But perhaps that's part of the experimentation -- modifying polar bears' fur and bodies to be able to live in a hot and humid environment. But for what purpose?" Why, they must be working on getting the bears to adapt to global warming!
